T205 Prices Dropping?

Posted By: Robert
Having been tracking card prices for a year I have noticed that now you can pick up T205's for a lot less then 6 months ago. HOF's like Tinker, Evers, Clarke, Huggins, Wheat, Mcgraw where all selling in a PSA 5 for the $300-350 range. Now you can get them for mid to low $200. I just picked up a Huggins PSA 6 for $260.00.

With the T206's going out of site it seems like the T205's are back pedaling, there are a lot of nice T205 commons graded 6 and 7's and there is no action on them on EBAY riht now.

Posted By: warshawlaw
because of the auction season ending and the pending Nationals. Only makes sense since every other investment I know of cycles. If you have the $$ to do it, there are some great items out there at reasonable prices, I assume from folks breaking up auction winnings and/or preparing for the summer buying spree. I just added a card I've always liked for a very nice price.

Posted By: Matt E.
Well if they are going to drop in prices like you say I'll just double my quantity of them, and wait a few years and sell them for some cash.

Also if they're selling so low it is probably because of a few sets being broken up and sold on ebay.

Matt

Posted By: Russ Bright
This is the set i'm collecting mainly and have been picking up some AMAZING deals on ebay, very happy with these, but it would be nice know i'll be able to sell them at least for what Im paying...

I'm holding until I get the whole set (or at least most of it!) then I might part out or sell as a whole, i can't decide, but it's one of my favorite sets and if the prices are on a downward trend, i'm excited!

pick them up now while they're cheap!

R

Those data (expressed as average single card sale prices)are provided below. These are all for cards graded as Ex by one of the big three. I'll let you draw your own conclusions, but remember the sample sizes vary greatly:

T205
................ 2005...... 2006 (thru 5/21)

Clarke.......... $215...... $237
Evers........... $491...... T205 Prices Dropping?

Posted By: Shawn Adkins
I would agree to a certain extent that the prices have been steadily fading a bit. The recent auctions and upcoming National have redirected some funds from eBay but I think this will be short lived. What I have noticed more than anything else is that cards in an SGC slab are suffe ing (pun indented) more than their PSA counterparts. Over the last month, there has been a larger gap between the two. Which works out great for me since I want mine in an SGC slab anyway.

Averages can be very misleading due to the vast differences in prices people will pay at any given time. An example would be Terry Turner, a fairly tough card in the T205 set that had three sales in three weeks earlier this year. A PSA6 sold for $1220 on Jan 18, a PSA5 sold for $400 six days later and a PSA7 OC sold for $413 on Feb 8. This is just one example of why averages can be quite skewed; the best we can do is look back at the data and make our best guess. Even with tons of historical data, I will throw it all out the window when I'm bidding on a card that I really want.

Robert's card is miscut on the back and this definitely affected the final price of the auction in my opinion. It's a great card; I just don't think it reached potential because of the centering on the back. A PSA6 Huggins should bring $400 (or thereabouts).

David's price history is very close to the averages I have recorded as well, thanks for sharing your data. I'll add that a PSA5 Tinker sold for $293 in Feb of this year.

All of that said, I wouldn't mind seeing the prices "fall" a little bit more so I can finish my upgrading quest.

Shawn
PS: Prices are falling?
http://cgi.ebay.com/T205-PIEDMONT-RICHARD-HOBLITZELL-No-CIN-after-1908_W0QQitemZ8815574708QQcategoryZ57993QQrdZ1QQcm dZViewItem
