Having trouble formatting this. But great pic of Ruth knocked out that I just picked up from RMY.

Gehrig just looked like a nice guy. The kind of guy you'd want to be your neighbor. Ruth kind of looked like a loud uncle.

Greatest all-white team, ever.

I disagree with you saying that the 27 yankees where the greatest team to ever play and I would put the same era phila athletics up against those yankees any day.

I wish I had something from the '27 season. Closest I come is this Sanella from 1932. I think it's the cheapest career era Ruth card you can find. But I'm happy to have it in my collection.

Great stuff, guys. Here's a photo of the stadium, with a 1927 stamping.

Wish I had something connected to the '27 team. as a massive Yankees fan, I think it's a crime that I don't.
Love that Babe Comes Home Movie Poster Speaking of Babe Comes Home, on the second page of this thread, I saw some pics of the filming of the movie & couldn't help that I saw a version of the Dodger logo. Was there a version of the logo already in existence or was this just created for the movie? Mike |
Mike,
That "LA" is the logo of the Los Angeles Angels of the Pacific Coast League. The Angels were in LA up until the end of 1957 when the Dodgers came to town. If you look at the 1955-1957 Angels caps, the logo is almost exactly like the ones used by the current Dodgers. Only major difference is the serif on the top of the "A" is different. The Dodgers had to buy the Angels franchise in order to own the LA territory, so I guess the rights to the logo came with the purchase of the team. Since The Babe Comes Home was filmed in Hollywood, they used Wrigley Field (the team was owned by the same Wrigley who owned the Cubs) and whatever Angels uniforms they had laying around. |
