"The Card" by O'Keefe- opinions, comments, arguments?-

Posted By: AnDrew Randall
Has anyone read this book in this forum? I just finished it and was slightly unnerved to learn of all the conspiracy theories and supposed proofs being uncovered in the sports memorabilia world. As a fairly new collector with a large investment in vintage baseball cards and other sports memorabilia, is there anyone here with some insight about the book, or its author?

I actually found out about this forum as it was listed in the book.

Posted By: davidcycleback
The book is one person's point of view. The author did his homework and he includes many legitimate things, but he is a newspaper writer not a card and memorabilia expert. There are many things I agree with, but a few items I had problems with. For example, the book has a chapter of unanswered intrigue surrounding the Cobb/Edwards Wagner card, but most any experienced T206 collector can tell you if the card is real or reprint. That the book includes an entire chapter about that card is simply a matter of drama to fill pages. However, as I said, there are points in the book with which I agree and, of course, some people like drama. CSI and Law and Order are popular shows I hear.

Posted By: jamie
I just finished it as well. The whole book is founded upon the idea that the Wagner and apparently a slew of other rarities were cut from a sheet so where are the rest of the T206 sheets? It's hard to believe that was the last surviving example.
