Do you grade your own cards before you send them?

Posted By: Douglas
Wondering how many of you grade your own cards before sending them in to get slabbed. And if you do, are there any pointers you can give, what measurement to be taken? Thanks.

Posted By: Red
I would think everybody has some sort of expectation of what their grade will be on cards they send in. You buy a card based on grade and price. You receive it, look at it, and either keep or return it. So you should have some idea on what the card should grade. When the card comes back you'll be surprised if the grade is higher(not often) or lower than what you expected, and then you'll really look the card over to figure out why. Better to do this before you send them in because it costs a lot of money to get cards graded.

Posted By: JudgeDred2
I always write down what grade I think a card should get before I send them in. Usually I can come within one grade of SGC. I've always been conservative so the cards usually come back a number grade better that I anticipated. In a couple of cases a few cards came back two grades higher. I don't recall too many times where the grading company gave a lower grade than I projected.
