Opinion on Clemente???

Bought a opening day Expos program from a gentleman who was at the game in 1969 , He also has this Autograph on the cover of a 1969 pirates program , The Autograph looks like Clemente , Is it Clemente and what would be a ballpark figure as to the value

Looks good to me.

Thanks for your opinion , I too strongly believe that it is real , the provenance is solid, The gentleman got it signed in 1969 at Jarry Park before a game , he has no idea of value , I want to make him a fair offer , any opinions on what this could be worth , He only kept the cover page of the program , and the page has not seen much light in the last 50 years. The signature has not much faded over the years.

Thanks for your opinions
Guy

I know it's sacrilege but you'd probably get better value for it if you were to cut a nice square where the signature is and turn it into a cut vs signed cover. I would never suggest that if the program were complete, but a cover page only isn't the most compelling medium.

Seems like cuts routinely outsell baseballs with Clemente. Without it already being authenticated, I'd offer $300 for it. After authentication you could probably double your money pretty easily.

Looks good IMO.

I'd value it in the high hundreds.

Could always switch the cover out.

Found the perfect companion for my Clemente signed cover , Roberto sitting atop the Pirates dugout signing autographs in the early 70's in Jarry Park , I will share the results once the framing is done.

Very cool....

Even if it brought more money to cut/slab it, I would definitely leave it as-is. Especially since a small portion of the "R" goes into the gold background. A cut would look funny with the two-toned gold/white background and no other context provided.

Keeping it in-tact tells an important story, and framing the signed cover with that particular photo is a perfect solution. Strongly suggest that you use mounting corners, as opposed to taping or gluing the signed cover to a mat.

Eager to see how this piece turns out!
