Thanks! I had a SGC 30, PSA 4, and PSA 3 prior and this one has the best color and centering of the four so I feel like I got pretty lucky given the grade. I ended up having to sell the other three for various reasons, but the '52 Topps Mantle has always been my "holy grail" card so I hope I can hold on to it. I hope you get the opportunity to own one someday, my best hobby moment was opening the box when my first one came in the mail after dreaming of owning one for 10 years! :)

Nice 52 Doug! In keeping with the Mantle spirit, I looked for quite awhile for a mid grade 56 Mantle for my set. Finally found one I liked.

That's a keeper for sure!:)

This couldn't quite fit on my scanner. But the important part is smack in the middle. That's Rogers Hornsby managing the PCL Champ Seattle Rainiers.

Awesome card for the grade, Doug. Why just a 2?

Thanks! There are two very faint wrinkles that run diagonally from the "P" on his hat to where it says "Pittsburgh" at the bottom, but they are literally so faint that you have to hold the card at an angle under a light to see them. It looks like a nice 4 otherwise, but at the price of a 2. :)

thats areal nice 2, wow, looks much better, if no creases or wrinkles if i was you i would re-submit...looks like a 4 easy.

oops- just seen your revised post about the wrikles....either way real nice.

Actually, if the eye appeal was taken into consideration I don't see why it couldn't be a 3, but it's probably not worth resubmitting since the grading fees and shipping charges both ways would probably be as much as the difference in price between a 2 and a 3. :(

Just back from SGC (Thanks, Andy), this is definitely one of the toughest Post-War HOF P-RC's to track down...............

All I need is Jackie's rookie (and a Hugh Casey due to the front of the card) and my 49 Bowman Bums be complete!

This is a PSA 2 ((paper loss on back). If anyone has a similar Jackie, please PM with with asking price.

Some very very nice cards already in this thread, but I am pretty proud of this grouping...not to mention that it was fun to do some card shopping for the first time in a great while. Here's the list, including its relevant sub-collection. Scans to come shortly.

Does anyone know what is the optimal size for posting slab sized images here? Everything I scan looks normal sized in my photo editor but comes out huge when it is uploaded. Almost all the scans above looks the same way.

I had this same issue with the new scanner I just bought. The photo editing software that came with it made the scan look almost the same size as the actual card, but when I posted it, it was three times as big. There should be some kind of resizing option with your photo editing software. Mine allows you to either enter a specific size or a percentage. I just reduce the scans to 35% of the original size and they come out right about the size of the actual card. Hope that helps.

sold one once, 5 years later i replaced it. just about zero of the usual dan-dee flaws. love the colors!

I am not entirely sure, and this might derail this thread, but I would vote for the 78 Jackson because of the incredible classic image is completely representative of who Jackson was, and it followed his classic performance.

I would also include the 1971 Thurman Munson because that too was a great image that completely represented how he went about things.

Then last, I would vote for the 1973 Johnny Bench or maybe the 1977 Pete Rose...having trouble there...

Glad you asked because I feel qualified to answer this! Started collecting in 72, but sold most of my collection for peanuts about 20 years ago. :mad: Kept my near complete well worn 72 set and a few select others.

Recently got back into collecting.

1. I do love that pose on the 78 Jackson. (picked him back up this summer along with all the hall of famers from the 78 set)
2. Also agree that the 71 Munson can be near the top of the list.

3. My vote for the third in the top 3: I scoured my memory for 70's cards that stuck in my head. When I think of the 73 set, I think of the Roberto Clemente. Back then I didn't make the connection, but the shadows on his face in that card seem appropriate considering he had already passed away when this card was released.

Picked it "back up" on eBay from buythatcard last night. So now the thread isn't hi jacked!
