Sorry Darren, Al and I have discussed this too, but I don't buy it. I've seen various degrees of the B showing or not showing. There aren't 4 distinct versions, but numerous ones, each with subtle differences. I don't consider those variations, and I don't plan to seek them all out. I am convinced there are 2 versions of the checklist, as are Beckett, SGC and PSA.

You're certainly free to feel however you want, and sure, there are tiny differences between the cropping of the photos with regard to how much of the 'B' appears. I definitely agree with that. But they all undeniably fall into one of two distinct categories: the 'B' is either severely cropped off (and the bat appears in the lower right) or it isn't severely cropped off and it appears to be a full 'B' (and the bat is non-existent, or in some cases, just a microscopic sliver appears). There is also the telltale feature of a larger light colored area to the left of his hat in the full 'B' version. Taken together with the differing back verbiage, I have no problem cataloguing 4 different versions of this card on my variations list.

Today was a monster mail day for me. I was approached last week by a guy who wanted to trade for some of my Yaz items. I've never traded items out of my master registry, but he has deep pockets and was able to blow me away. I traded away 3 items and got 7. Every item I got was one I either never thought I would find or was in a grade I couldn't have otherwise afforded. And to top things off, I've already purchased raw replacements of 2 of the items I traded away. Without further ado, here are the new additions, in chronological order:
http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...ooka%20Yaz.jpg Check out the cutting job on this one. Beautiful! http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...20Up%20Yaz.jpg Very happy to finally own a nice copy of this. http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...az%20front.jpghttp://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...Yaz%20back.jpg This transfer is pop 6, with only 3 higher. http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...og%20Yaz_1.jpg The Transogram might be my favorite from this haul. They are so tough to find and always pricey. The cutting of this one makes it an automatic "authentic," but I've seen a lot worse. This card looks great to me. Pop 4, only 3 higher. http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...20Yaz%2010.jpg Value-wise, this 76 is the crown jewel among today's arrivals. A big upgrade over my PSA 8. http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...anel%20Yaz.jpg This is my first Hostess panel and it has tremendous star power. The wavy cut hurts the eye appeal here and I'm debating whether I have the balls to crack it out, try to trim it, and resub. http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...GOLD%20Yaz.jpg I've had other Yaz collectors tell me it's surprisingly difficult to find this gold variation of the 82 Perma Graphics. The scratch is on the slab, not the card. Pop 5. Thanks for looking, everybody. If you couldn't tell, I'm over the moon with these new additions!! |
Thanks for showing the Yaz collection.
You have some real cool stuff. |

Very nice, Dan.
Congrats! :) |
So you did well. Sounds like your happy with the trade. You got 2 of the 3 back already... Which card are you looking for? I can keep an eye open for you.
Good luck and your Yaz collection is really nice. Scott |

A few recent Yaz pickups (and a few more on the way).
http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...uper%20Yaz.jpg http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...az%20front.jpghttp://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...Yaz%20back.jpg The disc is a 1978 Saga Disc. I also bought some Red Sox pocket schedules with Yaz on them. Two 1979 WITS radio and one 1980 TV 38. I already had one copy of each, but these were different back variations: http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...ds%20front.jpg http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...eds%20back.jpg My favorite one is Terrible Ted. Dude was such a fanatical collector of pocket schedules that he took out an ad on a pocket schedule, presumably looking for more pocket schedules. |
