Someone needs to get a player and all the cards and make a YouTube video of the recordings for posterity!

novakjr 10-22-2012 03:12 PM

I've still got a few sealed packages of these. No player though..

me too! I threw my player out a few years ago when I was cleaning stuff out.

DaClyde 11-07-2012 09:35 PM

I've started posting some of the recordings to YouTube if anyone is interested. Here is he playlist:

DaClyde---that is a really neat idea. I have the set and the player, and a couple of beaters I had played to see what they were like but you can't play the cards without causing minor damage ( Got to keep them mint ), so this allows me to finally hear some of these. Thanks for the link.

I wonder what PSA would do with these Doug . I bet I have some 9s and 10s :)

Listening to them at work. I really like listening to them. Thank You for putting them up.

Nope. I can work and listen, the you tube page goes to the next one when the current one is finished. So I just had to put the first one on and do what I am doing.

I don't smoke so I use my breaks to skim the board. It all works out. :D

DaClyde 11-08-2012 05:48 PM

Glad to know someone is enjoying them. It will probably take me a week or two to get all I have posted, so keep checking back.

Gmrson 11-11-2012 05:16 PM

I was working in a card shop when these came out and the one of the Detroit news stations interviewed me for a story about these. They were hi-tech!

Hullfan 12-04-2012 07:40 PM

Would love to hear Willie Mcgee if you come across him.

ALR-bishop 12-05-2012 07:18 AM

McGee

Hullfan--ask DaClyde in a pm if has has a McGee and is willing/able to add him to his site. If he does not have one I will see if I have a dupe I can send him

Robextend 12-05-2012 01:08 PM

I had that!! From what I remember the device wasn't that expensive, but they got you with those card packs! Kind of like a printer and it's ink :)

BruceinGa 12-05-2012 01:19 PM

I also have 4 or 5 of them.
Thanks for putting them on Youtube!

DaClyde 12-05-2012 09:01 PM

I checked the packs I have and I do not have the card of Willie McGee. I did just learn that the recording on the back of my Johnny Bench card is actually the Rickey Henderson recording. Incidentally, Rickey's card also came in the same pack.

ALR-bishop 12-06-2012 10:03 AM

Willie

Jason---I do have an extra McGee. If you are willing to add it to your blog for Hullfan and will send me your shipping address in a pm, I will send it to you

bn2cardz 12-06-2012 01:45 PM

I see more have been uploaded. I really appreciate you doing this, I enjoy listening.

DaClyde 12-07-2012 11:37 AM

I've really slacked off on these, sorry about that. I'll try to get another dozen or so uploaded tonight.

mybestbretts 12-07-2012 06:10 PM

Thank you

Thank you for doing that. I had these and never listened to them. They are really sharp sounding. Appreciate your efforts

DaClyde 12-10-2012 09:20 PM

Another batch has been uploaded, a handful of which arrived today from Al (thank you, Al!). Included in this batch is one Willie McGee. At this point, 67 of 164 have been uploaded.

I've been tempted to run the audio through Audacity to lower the pitch and see if I could get them closer to the player's actual voices. For some reason, they all sound a bit higher pitched than I expected.

DaClyde 01-03-2013 05:59 PM

I've slowed down posting the videos a bit, but I've got 85 online now and will try to knock out another dozen by Sunday. I think the pitch issue is starting to lessen as the batteries start to run down.

DaClyde 02-19-2013 03:01 PM

I have finished posting videos for all the cards I have in my possession, which comes to 143 of 164. My card of Bruce Hurst won't play without skipping, so I'll need a replacement of that, as well as Ernie Banks, which also wouldn't play all the way through. So all told, I have to find the following cards to complete the set:

3 1986 A.L. Championship Game 5 Red Sox & Angels
4 1956 World Series Game 5 Yankees & Dodgers
9 Reggie Jackson
47 Will Clark
60 Jose Canseco
86 Ron Darling
88 Harold Baines
111 Bruce Hurst

cardsfan73 02-20-2013 10:57 PM

Thanks for taking the time to upload all these!

ALR-bishop 02-21-2013 11:27 AM

Talkers

Jason---I will look back through my dupes again to check against your list

Found extras of 11, 43, 124 and 127. PM me your mailing address again

DaClyde 03-02-2013 02:12 PM

Thanks again, Al! Cards 11, 43, 124 and 127 have been uploaded for a total of 147 of 164.

62corvette 03-24-2013 08:16 PM

I remember getting those sealed packs at Toys r us back in 89. They were marked down to .99 a pack.

DaClyde 07-18-2015 08:20 AM

I managed to pick up four more cards from COMC during the recent Spring Cleaning sale, so the play list at YouTube has been updated. 156 of 164 cards are now accounted for with only these 8 remaining:

3 1986 A.L. Championship Game 5 Red Sox & Angels
4 1956 World Series Game 5 Yankees & Dodgers
9 Reggie Jackson
47 Will Clark
60 Jose Canseco
86 Ron Darling
88 Harold Baines
111 Bruce Hurst

mrmopar 07-18-2015 12:05 PM

Nice, would love to have the set myself, but couldn't fathom building it piece by piece. I'll see if I happen to have any of the 8 you still need.

ALR-bishop 07-18-2015 01:30 PM

Set

I have a full set and could lend you the missing cards

That would be great as I really have no interest in owning these cards, just posting the recordings.

ALR-bishop 08-02-2015 07:53 AM

The Walking Talkers

Ok. I know I sent you some earlier but did not keep address. You can pm or email it to me

ALR-bishop 08-09-2015 11:21 AM

Jason-- have not forgotten. Hope. To gather and ship them soon

DaClyde 08-22-2015 12:46 PM

Darling, Baines, Jackson and Canseco have been posted to Youtube. Thanks again, Al!
