Has anyone heard the Rumor about Trimmed Wagner PSA 8?

Posted By: Rand
I spoke to a highly succesful longtime dealer, who told me the running joke was the PSA 8 Wagner is trimmed. He owns 2 wagners and has personally held the 8 Wagner in his hands before it was graded. I will keep the dealers name to myself, but i am sure everyone on this board knows him.

Posted By: Joann
ARRGGHH... Gads it just tries my patience sometimes.

Rand,

So you know - while it is true that this has been discussed here before, I wouldn't classify it as "old news". In fact, there is a book on the entire episode that will be released in the next few weeks. Amazon.com has it available on a pre-order basis now - for search purposes at Amazon, title is "The Card: Collectors, Con Men, and the True Story of History's Most Desired Baseball Card". Author is Mike O'Keeffe.

There have been a few extensive threads here, but to be honest I would not know what to tell you to search under. I'm not that good at the search function and if you try Wagner or T206 Wagner you may get tons of false hits from other threads. One of the older threads might be found by searching "Heitman" as he posted several times in that thread. Not sure where to look for the more recent threads. I tried searching "Wagner trimmed" and the first hit looked like a good one, but the link was dead.

Hope this helps even though I can't post a link to a prior thread.

Joann

Posted By: Kevin Saucier
Perhaps a large auction house (insert name here) will sell the blade that "allegedly" trimmed the Wagner. The description would look like something like this....

(writers have at it )
Posted By: peter chao
Guys,

If we know the story about the trimmed Wagner, then the buyers of the Gretzky T206-Wagner, probably knew also. The book that's coming out is probably going to make the Gretzky T206-Wagner even more famous and valuable.

This in turn will probably make more T206 cards unaffordable. Hmmm...doesn't sound good.

Peter
