Hey guys, I'm pretty psyched as this looks really nice and is my first submission to SGC. Should be getting the grades any day now. Will reveal grade as soon as I do. First person to post the correct grade wins... congratulations. :p

AGuinness 05-16-2018 10:59 PM

Dang that’s a beauty! I’d venture 8.5...

If anyone else submitted it, an 8 minimum. If I submit it, a 5. It's a real beauty!

pclpads 05-17-2018 01:45 AM

Nice finally seeing one w/o all the black print schmack. GL with the grade.

I will guess trimmed because that is what they would grade it if I sent it in.

stlcardsfan 05-17-2018 07:30 AM

Beautiful card!

NM+ 7.5

RedsFan1941 05-17-2018 07:36 AM

5.5 or 6

swarmee 05-17-2018 07:47 AM

As pointed out in the first thread on the pre-war board, if that is a surface wrinkle on his cap, it wouldn't qualify for a 5.

Hammerin'Hank 05-17-2018 07:56 AM

With no surface wrinkles that is solid 8.5 and could get a 9.

If a surface wrinkle is visible under a black light then your looking at 5.5. As a collector, these are favorite cards b/c I can afford them. They look like and 8 or 9 with the naked eye.

luciobar1980 05-17-2018 08:29 AM

I looked the card over pretty thoroughly so I feel like I would have seen any surface wrinkle, but who knows. We shall see! I’ll post the grade when I get it!

KCRfan1 05-17-2018 10:24 AM

Half grades do not get issued often. I believe the card grades at an 8, assuming no creases or wrinkles and the card measures correctly.

I agree. I am trying to imagine what would improve that card-- the flaws are miniscule. The area of concern for the surface wrinkle appears in some examples on ebay, at least to my eye, and therefore is likely just a printing anomaly.

swarmee 05-17-2018 12:05 PM

Well, there are some touched corners as well, seen from the back. Centering is top notch, though.

Rookiemonster 05-17-2018 01:19 PM

Sgc 84 is my guess

pawpawdiv9 05-17-2018 02:43 PM

With the 'red raspberries' and print line going across...print defects.
Guessing a 7

Hxcmilkshake 05-17-2018 06:05 PM

Rough cut on bottom, touches on corners, some minor print stuff on front.... 7

I'll guess an 86 due to the light corner touches.

Very nice card regardless!

glynparson 05-19-2018 08:35 AM

I'd expect

I'd expect an 84 from the looks of the scan and be happier if higher sad and reexamine if lower. Honestly a lot of print issues (which is common) on that copy ( i know its less than many but it still has them) very light touches to corners, rough cut is not a detractor for the grade so i like that it has a slight rough cut.

Peter_Spaeth 05-19-2018 08:56 AM

I'm just not seeing whatever you guys are seeing that would bring it down to a 7 based on corners.

1963Topps Set 05-19-2018 03:41 PM

What do we win???

luciobar1980 05-21-2018 09:04 PM

K guys, any last guesses!? I should find out the grades tomorrow or next day, I hope.

Having seen it in hand, I think it is a real beauty and was thinking it could even be an 8 or better. I really only saw one slightly significant corner touch and the obvious rough factory cut. Speaking of which, how much weight do you reckon will SGC give to that? Personally it doesn't really bother me, assuming that it is indeed a factory cut, which I'm sure has to be. It almost gives it an even more raw, pristine-off-the machine look. Ok, that's maybe a stretch. :p

Anyways, I'm gonna cross my fingers and guess an 88/8...

If Gashousegang declines or doesn’t get back to me, I’ll go to the next.

Excellent. As I posted, I had no idea what people going on about the corner wear were talking about. From what my old eyes could see there was no way those corners were two grades below Mint.

swarmee 05-22-2018 09:08 AM

Very cool; guess that isn't a surface wrinkle, just a reflection.

ALR-bishop 05-22-2018 10:39 AM

Congrats

Not sure about SGC, but with PSA very light surface wrinkles on 5's are more common than you would think. I've seen plenty of them.

It’s a beauty regardless of grade, but that is great news. Congrats! I’d be proud to have that one in my collection!

What was the higher charge for? Return shipping insurance?
