What percentage of items in auction have sold in the last 10 years?

Not sure there's anything close to a scientific number here, but I've been thinking about how often items that sell rehit the auction market not too long later and was wondering what percentage of items in an average auction (Heritage, REA etc.) are items that have sold at auction in the last 10 years?

Hi Jeff,
There is nothing scientific about what I am saying here, but a number of years ago I noticed that certain Nolan Ryan game used uniforms that I coveted surfaced about every 6 years.

Good question. Almost every 'great' item I have owned has shown up in an auction within three years. I used to think it was because of buyer's remorse, but it's probably people just getting tired of an item after a while. I'm the same way - pieces I think I will never sell start getting stale after a year or two.

Last night I saw two of my former items in LOTG, including one that I said I would never sell, and the next owner said the same. I have no idea how many collectors owned it after him, but the entire process has taken three years :)
