That's crazy, I thought that was a 10-20k card. I haven't really been following modern cards lately though.

MattyC 02-02-2018 12:18 PM

Wow. Great for the hobby. Good for the owner, seller, and hope the buyer is one happy collector who got a most coveted piece.

packs 02-02-2018 12:26 PM

Article mentions it "sold" but did an actual person buy it?

What did Probstein do to make you hate him so much? lol

By the way, this thread should be moved to the "Football Cards Forum."

bobbyw8469 02-02-2018 02:17 PM

Who knows.....that is too much for that card.

Maybe the new buyer will use Rick to "relist" it

Peter_Spaeth 02-02-2018 03:20 PM

Or bump it and sell for 500K.

Rookiemonster 02-02-2018 03:29 PM

Lol this is a great thread name . Insane price .

Jim65 02-02-2018 04:49 PM

Brady has 135 different rookie cards? Talk about ridiculous.

ALR-bishop 02-02-2018 04:52 PM

That he has that many rookie cards or the price for this one....or both ?

Peter_Spaeth 02-02-2018 04:55 PM

:) Maybe the buyer is doing the run.

Peter_Spaeth 02-02-2018 04:56 PM

If 100 of this one were made, 73 will be on sale soon.

That he has that many rookie cards, I'm glad I really don't collect post 1990 stuff.

It seems like a lot for a card of a 3 time All Pro.

ullmandds 02-03-2018 08:23 AM

sounds like good value!

gnaz01 02-03-2018 08:40 AM

A $350,000 "offer" expired 2 days before..........

An 8.5 sold for 63,800 a few days before that. There was also a 275k offer that expired. Why take a 250k offer when you have 2 higher offers? An Exquisite LeBron RPA "sold" for 250k a few weeks ago. EBay has now deleted that listing from its sales history.

. . . and putting aside the fact that on a national level he is wildly unpopular . . ..

Hardly Roberto Clemente or Mickey Mantle.

They hate him now but in 10 years they will appreciate him.
Also he is modern superstar in the age of Facebook,Twitter,Youtube and internet which I could see him having more demand than Mantle in 20 years.

Think of Clark Gable. He is the king of Hollywood, but anybody under 40 would rather have Leonardo DiCaprio or Tom Cruise's autograph.
Why? Gable was never part of thier childhood like DiCaprio or Cruise were, similar to how it will be in 20 years when people will remember Tom Brady in the Superbowl and have no memories of the Mick.

If he has more demand than Mantle, he will have 100x the supply.

agreed .... if it was sold, there is the chance that it was sold to someone who just wanted a Brady RC, and may not have another sports card

It would not have gone for that after this loss ... and I'd bet Brady never sees another Super Bowl, save the box seats

I'm guessing you are either a SUPER FAN or someone who will be looking to cash in on Brady cards that you may have

In any event, if there are collectors in 20 years, Mantle is certainly going to be remembered. In the sports card hobby, baseball is clearly the most collected sport.

I just meant did a real bidder win the card. Sometimes people bid without any intention of paying, but just to bump the price up.

I agreed with you ... maybe it didn't come out that way :)

I was also adding that the price could have been just one person wanting to own a Brady without regard

I collect Ruth Gehrig and Joe Jackson. Three of the most coveted players in all sports collecting. What is the logic that no one will remember Mickey Mantle in 20 years. That’s just idiotic.

Idiotic may be an understatement imo
