WOW!!! I had a paper route at that age:

Padres give Salas, 16, $5.6M in international signing period

So true and I do not recall my tips being anywhere near that. I think I should have had an agent back then negotiate the terms of my deliveries for me

These international signings are such a crapshoot, sometimes the only significant money these players will make is from the initial signing.

As a side note, just like with cards, cars and houses, I feel like sports salaries have gotten way too out of hand. Hell Ted Williams in his last season ever got paid $125,000 or the equivalent to a little over 1.2 Million. No ballplayer today, regardless of sport, should be making anything more than that!

It makes me want to try throwing some curveballs again...after all, it's only been 25 years.

From my home Town, if you all remember Matt White in the late 90s. Was given a 10 million dollar signing bonus by the rays right out of high school. And never played a major league game. I think it's still the signing bonus record to this day.

Agreed, it's like paying for the most bottles in a strip club, owners have done themselves and the game a disservice, can't we get back to a competitive team, 3 dollar beers, and 20 bucks admission?
And take the extra dough and pay classroom teachers more?

If you said, "WOW!!! I had a paper route at that age" to any millennial, their reply would be, "What the heck is a paper route???????"

Why shouldn't the top international prospect get a huge signing bonus? The first two picks of the 2022 draft signed for bonuses of $8.1 million.
