Harvey Kuenn #132 1955 Bowman Error Variation

I hate to waste a thread with this, but my curiosity has gotten the best of me.

I recently acquired the set and it contains all variations. I have looked line by line on the two cards and I cannot tell a difference - so either I have two of the same variation or I am looking in the wrong place. Can someone set me straight on what I am looking for and let this thread die a quick death?

On the back one is spelled Kuenn and one is spelled Kueen in the black box.

kailes2872 04-21-2017 07:40 PM

There it is! I have both variations. I would have looked at those cards for the next 2 hours and not spotted it!

There is also a 3rd version. His name is spelled Kueen on the front and back. I have never seen one but have seen it on a checklist.

Ugh... and thus the search begins...

Al, do you have this variation?

I have seen this on checklists as well but have never seen one. Does anyone here have one?

Here is a picture of one(132a) from The Trading Card Database website. http://www.tradingcarddb.com/Errors....35/1955-Bowman

Interesting. I never knew about the third variation. I have about 6 or 7 Harvey's so I will have to go through them tonight. Fingers crossed!!!

Wow, I was a serious collector of that set in high grade for a decade or so, and never even heard of that third variation - much less saw any examples-

swarmee 05-01-2017 06:01 PM

PSA doesn't list it as a separate variation, just "Name misspelled" so we don't know if PSA has graded one or not.

The font of the "N" on the "Kueen" front does not match the font of the other letters.

If you are insinuating that someone photo shopped "Kueen" on the front of that card pictured, I was thinking the same thing. If not, I will stand alone. As far as I know, there are no known 1955 Bowman Harvey Kuenn cards with the name misspelled on the front, I believe someone was having fun and photo shopped that card. If you blow up the name on the card you can easily tell that the font on the two E's is completely different than the KU and the N.

Absolutely, yes, it is an insinuation that something is not right (I believe it was photo shopped as well). As with others, I have never seen this phantom 3rd variation either.....maybe Darren is just having fun with us, although if he was responsible for this card, the fonts likely would have matched.

Insinuations are running wild in here :)

Never seen it either except here ;)

Yeah, I think our collective leg is being pulled with this obvious photo-editing job. Cliff's eagle-eyed assessment is dead on - the double E font is bogus.

Is anyone here a member of the trading card database? 6 or 7 members there have it on their list. The guy that posted the picture in 09 is still a current active member there.

insidethewrapper 09-05-2017 09:33 AM

It's been taken off the site when I visited it today. Appears the photo was a fake. I don't think the card with "Kueen" on front exists. The person who posted it, will not accept email or messages.

Volod 09-05-2017 04:44 PM

Case Closed?

I have to wonder if the prankster counterfeiter back in '09 was not so much botching the font as actually putting an obvious fake out there to see if it would be accepted. It took only five minutes in my simple photo editing software to produce a fake using the actual original Bowman font.

That's scary, what is real and not real anymore ?

Well, at least on-line, Mike. In the bygone days of looking at a card in your hand, I think not so scary.
