Fight Beat magazine cards

While researching the secret "gamblers exhibition" between Jack Dempsey and Jack Johnson that allegedly took place in Saskatoon, Canada, on Dec. 10, 1921, I came across the inaugural issue of Lew Eskin's FIGHT BEAT magazine. The mag not only contains Eskin's take on the alleged bout, but the cover advertises "four collectible boxing cards" inside. Does anyone have a sample of these cards, or the identity of the fighters depicted? Thanks!

Cool, you found some. Would that be considered Camacho's first "card"?

D. Bergin 01-10-2017 05:59 PM

Cuevas to possibly?

Camacho: far as I know this is his first card.

Cuevas: has a card in the 1979 Hace Milliones De Anos set from Argentina. Middle row, far left:

I'm gonna have to start digging through magazine boxes, see if I can find the missing issue.

What is on the backs of the Fight Beat cards?

I wonder if PSA would accept them.

Exhibitman 01-12-2017 05:41 PM

The backs are the back cover of the magazine, which was an advertisement.

PSA is slow to embrace newly cataloged boxing issues. I've even had trouble getting them to grade well known issues until they appear in my book and PSA buys an updated version. I had one run-in with them where they claimed an issue wasn't cataloged, which was true since they were using a catalog that was several years old!

December 1983 (1st issue):

1 Mancini
2 Rosario
3 Moore
4 King

These are the only ones that are numbered.

Far as I can tell, it is a Mancini RC and Rosario's RC. And King's if anyone cares...

King

Hey, I think a Don King rookie is cool!
