Posted By: jay behrens
The only thing I don't like about the card is the fact that his face obscured by the bat. We I get a card of a player, I want to be able to see his face, which is why I don't like Thorpe's Zeenut. Otherwise, a card that would right at home in my collection.

Jay

I like to sit outside, drink beer and yell at people. If I did this at home, I would be arrested. So, I go to baseball games and fit right in.

Posted By: fkw
In case you didnt know, that Ruth is actually from a set called 1926 W511, Ruth is the only baseball player in it. It is mostly collected by nonsport or movie card collectors. One day the guides should fix it.

The W511 cards are found in Blue, Purple, B&W, Orange, and Red. And with or without numbers, Id estimate there are about 5 subsets, but they are so rare no one has complete checklists for them.

Examples

Posted By: fkw
The name W511 is from the old "American Card Catalog" (just like T206, D303, R319 etc.).

When the Ruth card was first listed as "1924 W-Unc." a few years back in the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards, they didnt know where it was from or if it was actually part of a set, or if the set was named already. Well it was..... it is W511. One day the Catalog will update the listing and put it in its true strip card set, and update the year to 1926 (With known movie star cards, there are movies named on the card that date it to exactly 1926).

Read more about the W511 set here

http://www.moviecard.com/zamerican/stripcards/w511.html

Posted By: leon
I agree with you and am somewhat of a stickler for ACC type numbers too. With that being said, and I believe what you are saying, how can you tell from what the ACC says that these are what they are? My reprint says, verbatim:

Trading or Strip cards :
Numbered Colored Cards:

W511- Aviators-Movies-Western Photo's, Blue, 1 1/4 x 2 1/4, #55 seen, An... .03 (cents)11 Lindbergh, 12 Chamberlain, 13 Elder, 14 Byrd. 15 Lindbergh, Etc.

Are you seeing something somewhere else that helps identify them ? Also, above, where I wrote "Lindbergh" twice, that's the way it is in the book. best regards

Posted By: Troy Kirk
I maintain the Moviecard Website, thanks for the mention and link, Frank. I just added a bunch of new pictures of cards from that set to that checklist on my site, feel free to take a look. Also, if anyone wants to send me additional jpgs of cards from that set, I'll add them to the checklist.
