Topps trivia contest

Without cheating, how many of these cards (year/player) can you name from just the fragment pictured? Hint: All are HOF.

Jason,

Thanks for doing this. #2 is Robero Clemente, #3 is Frank Robinson. No clue on the others.

Duane

#5 is Steve Carlton I believe.

Taking a guess that #4 is Dave Concepcion or Joe Morgan.

Kurri17 06-04-2016 09:38 AM

4. '76 Lou Brock 5. '77 Carlton Got #2 as well, but 1. and 6. got me.

That is right, #4 is Lou Brock not my guesses.

Cliff Bowman 06-04-2016 10:13 AM

#1 1969 Joe Morgan, #6 1970 Hoyt Wilhelm.

nat 06-04-2016 10:14 AM

I THINK #3 is Eckersley, I know that #6 is Hoyt Wilhelm.

Harford20 06-04-2016 10:15 AM

1. Joe Morgan
2. Roberto Clemente
3. Frank Robinson
4. Lou Brock
5. Steve Carlton
6. ?? Niekro

Y'all did fantastic. Answers are exactly what Harford20 said but Wilhelm for #6.

You guys are so good at this that I've added an extra credit one. I can't imagine anyone but us would even have a chance...http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...8d55b4b24e.jpg

Too late, but would have gotten all 6. The new one might be 57 T Aaron.

Biffed that one after checking the Aaron card. Definitely a 57T card though.

jason.1969 06-04-2016 02:33 PM

Butt is on the wrong side for 57 Topps Aaron. :-)

How about Kaline for the last one?

Amazing!!! Yes. 57T Al Kaline. The CIA could use this sort of talent.

brob28 06-04-2016 03:42 PM

Just shows how much we all stare at these things... :D Fun thread!

I sorted through so many 78T cards when I first started collecting that I could pretty much name every player from their card photo w/o seeing the name. I can still probably name 90%+ just because they are seared into my brain. I'm sure the most obscure players each year would be tricky in a game like this, but someone out there will know.

jason.1969 06-05-2016 12:25 AM

Funny. I think that was me as well for 1978T!

Same for me on the 78's except I could tell you what the game result for every card was because my brother and I played it so much.

Non-HOF edition!

Craig Kusick?

jason.1969 06-05-2016 08:13 AM

Wow, that was fast! Correct!

But what year…I am going to say 79. I know the 78 was a batting "action" pose.

mrmopar 06-05-2016 10:39 AM

You are talking about the game boxes on the backs, right? I knew those pretty well too, but have since forgotten. I definitely knew the HRs longer, but even those have faded from memory. I remember hating the rule cards that had no play action on them!

Hard to scream 1970s baseball much louder than this...http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...9af496e040.jpg
