Old photos

I was looking at the "suit and tie" thread and got me to thinking about some of the old photos in there. In particular the DiMaggio brothers with the advertising.

So my question is where do you guys find old photos? Are they originals? Or reprints? I don't mind reprints even. I'm a history buff (history major), and I love looking at old black and white sports photos (baseball in particular), especially with advertising.

Do you buy them on ebay? Do you buy them here? Do you find the images on Google or whatever and then send them somewhere like Walgreens or Walmart and have them printed? Or something else? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the link and info. I have never bought from an auction house like REA, RMY, etc. I've only bought from the auction house called ebay, haha. I will have to learn how those other places work I guess.

The whole range of originals to reprints are available on eBay, and auction houses like RMY Auctions (photo specialists).

Some photos get expensive, but many originals are very affordable.

If you have any questions about originality you can post here or message me (I'm a photo expert, but not a buyer or seller so no ulterior motives).

where to find baseball prints

"A Portrait of Baseball Photography" by Henry Yee and Marshall Fogel is a good place to start if you wish to school yourself on baseball photos.
I see a copy on eBay for $38 or best offer, which is a pretty good deal as Amazon is asking $99 (Abe Books, too).

Right, RMY auctions....Check out their prior auctions for prices.

eBay sure ain't what it used to be, but if you are new at this, look under "sports memorabilia" and hit "wire photo" or "original photo" or "vintage photo."

Ditto....and if photos are an interest then auction houses need to be looked at. They get some of the best material.

Be aware of trimmed photos though

I haven't used eBay in years, though recall good photos all over the place way back when
