Mastro is ending- Decisions, decisions, decisions

Posted By: Bob
Unlike some of the guys here who can throw around huge sums whenever they want for that particular card or set, some of us guys are trying to stay afloat in Mastro by mentally doing the gymnastics of which cards can be sold to finance new purchases and make things even out. Sort of like Jerry Seinfeld being "Mr. Even Steven." Does anyone else here face these dilemmas whenever these auctions wind down or is it just me????
Sitting here dilemmaing,
tbob

Mastro is ending- Decisions, decisions, decisions

Posted By: Rob Dewolf
tbob,

What seems to happen to me often is that from the time the catalog comes to the final day, I mentally get attached to one or two lots, deciding that those will be my prime objectives. I'll also place a number of other initial bids, but it this lot or lots that I really want. Then, near auction's end, if bidding on these goes way past the point of what I'm willing to pay and I resign myself to the fact that I'm not going to get them, I have to decide whether I'm going to seriously try to buy anything else. The dilemma becomes the question, "Do I really want these lots (my second or third choices), or am I buying just so I don't get shut out?"

While that seems like a simple question to answer at 5:31 p.m. Eastern time, at 1 a.m. it's not so easy.

Posted By: James Feagin
There is a reason my collection is down to only 30 cards. I don't add to my collection, I recycle. I will be bidding in Mastro tonight, and yes, I will have to sell some stuff to finance it IF I win (and that's a big IF).

Posted By: Bruce MacPherson
I find myself in the same boat as you Bob. I suppose that's why I rarely win any multiple card lots as they always seem to go several bids higher than I think they will.

Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
Yeah, I agree with Leon. It seems that the cards end right about where they should, give or take 10%. And this is hardly a widely publicized auction.

Posted By: Bob
I agree leon. When I saw I was outbid (again) on the badly trimmed E94 Cobb and saw the next bid was $2600 (with the juice), I concurred with you, the market still has lots of steam.
