Any ideas? Here's the reverse image. Columbia C.A.A., which I assume is Columbia Athletic Association. (The guy on the right has "Captain" on his hat).

My guess is some sort of performer - perhaps he is an actor and that's a role he is performing? The frills on the thing around his waist don't go with any sport I can think of, but that cap he's holding looks like it's from some sport.

Weird.

The guy on the right has a death stare

My first thought also was jockey, but I don't know. Also not sure it's sport. What's that little fence he's holding?

Acrobat. Is that a hat he's holding or is it actually a pair of soft shoes?

I don't think his "sport" has ever been covered on ESPN.;)

I think you are right about the shoes.

Also, with occupational tintypes like this, there were often odd props that actually had something to do with the occupation;e.g.-possibly that piece of fence.

That would make it incredibly rare. When they began I sometimes thought they either invented sports or introduced them to countries just to have something to show.

Looking at the outfit (especially the belt below each knee) makes me wonder if it is a cyclist. I have seen images where early riders would strap their pant legs as to not get caught in the wheels!

Pls pardon the tag-along

Here's another mystery "team". Rugby?

Base ball team. Those guys are just really, really, really small compared to that base ball they're holding.

Certainly as good of a guess as any. Neat picture.

It looks like basketball to me.
