How did your team do on Opening Day?
Opening Day is wonderful. It feels like a holiday and everything is about to get going again.
I watched my beloved Mets win 7-1 over the Marlins. It was nice to see Darryl Strawberry throw out the 1st pitch. I hope they get off to a fast start b/c Citi Field is going to turn real ugly if they don't. |
How did your team do on Opening Day?
Red Sox came back to win!
Jimmy |
Giants' magic number down to 162!
|
Heyward lived up to the hype in his first AB with a 3 run HR.
16 runs on opening day  |
Bravos
Derek Lowe looked like he was throwing BP but the bats held the day. Braves put up 16 on the lowly Cubbies.
|
They beat the Yanks 9-7! :)
|
They lost to the BoSox 9-7.
|
My Blue Jays CHOKED BIG TIME!!!!!
|
Any team playing the Yankees is my team.
Sunday they won, 9-7. |
The Montreal Expos didn't play today.

The Bucs won today, and it is sure is more fun when we win.

Halladay looked impressive in an 11-1 win for the Phils
|
Yanks lost, Mets won, Giants won.
David- I'm a lifelong Giants fan too.:( |
Red Sox beat the "Evil Empire"

I will be selling my Cubs cards...
After 27 years, I have decided that there is little reason to live like this. I don't accept this kind of performance in any other aspect of my life....and when you consider they have been doing this for 75 years BEFORE I even started following them, that makes it actually, more than a little ridiculous.
A team of howler monkeys must have a statistically better chance of breaking through and winning a championship one year than what the Cubs have demonstrated over the past 102 seasons. Edited to add: It would be different if I thought they were trying. But they can't be. Opening Day is the one game for which you have the most prep time in the entire season. To get it that wrong...I am seriously rethinking my allegiance. I haven't dropped it completely yet, but we're getting closer than ever. |
Heyward....I mean Braves whopped up on the Cubs.....:)

Tigers beat the Royals.

But I will never forgive the present organization (those bastard Steinbrenners) for tearing down Yankee Stadium. (I am still the historical Yankees guy, tho, say 1903-1939, and the collection continues.) |
I agree with David that tearing down Yankee Stadium was blasphemous. There was nothing wrong with the old park, and it was torn down purely to add luxury suites. And now all the good seats are so expensive most fans are priced out.
But I'll still watch them for free on TV.;) |
Tim Lincecum is just.....so freaking incredible. It makes me unbelievably happy to watch him pitch for my team every 5th day.
|
Tim Lincecum's the real deal...no two ways about that. For my teams, locally the Padres...oh the Padres. Don't get me started. On a long distance note, I expect my Yankees to have another great year. And even if they dont, only 251 more hits for Jeter to get 3000.
|
Pirates
The Buccos won ,took the fisrt step toward the 2010 World Series:eek:!You heard it here first( and probably last) Lou
|
Lincecum is listed as 5' 11" and 160 lbs....how does he do it? Back-to-back Cy Youngs, and arguably the best in the game right now.
|
Barry, his father is a genius...
It's all about torque and leverage
I just hope the throwing motion is properly designed so as to not wear out the various pivot points too early... |

edited to add: I'm more amazed by a guy like CC Sabathia who must weigh 300 lbs and he can still pitch. |
Jason said what I've been thinking: he is going to have a short career. I don't think his arm will be able to handle 10-12 years of that pitching motion. Hope I'm wrong.

Rhett got a Son and the Mariners Won!
My Brother Rhett (Most of you know him) and his wife just had their first son born yesterday on Opening Day and THE MARINERS WON! Not sure which one is better, but either way it was a Good Day!
Rhys Yeakley |
There really is a baby boom going on in Net54. Congrats to your brother and his wife Rhys. I think that's 4 babies born in the last month and a half amongst regular posters.
|
It was a glorious day on the south side of Chicago.
|
Max, your ex-Expos teased us fans ...
in the DC area by scoring a run in the first inning and holding a 1 - 0 lead over the Phillies after 3 innings, but thereafter my Nationals reverted to form and got crushed!
|
They beat the Nationals 11-1. Should have never traded Polanco 5 years ago. And for Ugueth Urbina.

How do these pitchers do it?
Quote:
I can tell you, as an avid history buff of no-hit pitchers through time, that many dominant no-hit pitching performances have been turned in by guys that were amazingly small of stature. Pitching dominance does not always equal physical size and conversely physical size does not guarantee quality pitching performance and results. That being said, watching modern baseball games would almost lead you believe that all major league pitchers are 6'4" + and 220 lbs...... |
