Help Identify: 1936 Tigers Autographs

3 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone,

This is only my second post on these message boards and I'm hoping y'all can help me out with a few vintage autographs. I have a 1936 Toledo Mud Hens signed program (vs. Louisville Colonels) with 17 autographs on it. Of these 17, 2 are still unidentified and have bugged me for quite a good while now.

Images 1 and 2 below are the unidentified autographs...does anyone recognize these?

For the sake of showing something neat as well on the same program, image 3 is of Clyde Hatter (a rather tough Tigers autograph).

Thank you for the help!

... reference to signature of Clyde Hatter as "rather tough"
is just alittle of an understatement IMHO

Indeed! Although, I have seen a few in the last decade.

I actually meant to post a Frank Reiber autograph instead of Croucher, not sure where my mind is. Reiber is pretty tough as well, although nowhere near as much so as Hatter. Croucher is a fairly easy one!

Any help on the unidentifieds is appreciated - the unknowns always drive me crazy.

A. Perna signature . . .

. . .

I suspect that A. Perna is Andy Perna, long time trainer for the Toledo Mud Hens. Andy is a member of the Ohio Baseball Hall of Fame. That guess, and the additional info, was taken from Andy's son Thomas' obituary:

I believe the first signature . . .

. . . is that of Toledo Mud Hens owner Waldo Shanks. But I am not positive.

I have an example of his somewhere (on a Toledo contract), but damn if I know where it resides.

Maybe someone else can weight in on confirmation on that signature

You're correct. I've been looking at ancestry.com, and was coming up dry, but once I saw your post, I plugged in the data, and came across Andrew J. Perna's WWII draft registration card dated Apr 27, 1942. The signatures match. He indicated on the card that his job was "Toledo Baseball Club Trainer".

Steve and Vincent - wow, thanks for the help guys! Those are some pretty obscure autographs, amazing y'all figured them out. I must say, I have had a more than a few of my unidentified autographs over the years deciphered as team trainers!
