Worch Cigar cards

Posted By: leon
I just won this last night, Worch Cigars, and thought it was one of the best portrait's I have seen on any card......Has anyone else seen this particular card before? I think it's pretty scarce....btw, why the heck are Worch so undervalued? Maybe the size (being that of a postcard)?..thanks

Posted By: jay behrens
I've only seen a handful of Worch's, but not this one. Definately a great picture. If I remember the set correctly, I think part of the reason for the lack of value is that most of the cards are of Minneapolis Millers and St Paul Saints players with Joe Hauser being the only one from either of those teams of any significance.

Jay

My place is full of valuable, worthless junk.

Posted By: Greg Ecklund
NOOOO...Leon these were supposed to be a secret!

I have never seen the Mack before, but thought it was cool also. I won the Gomez to go with my Foxx that I got at the National. The Worch's have size and in this case rarity going against them. With some issues rarity drives the value, but in this case I think they are so rare that few people know about them and collect them. Most of them have really neat photos that often aren't found on other cards and postcard size isn't a drawback to me at all.

Very nice pickup on the Mack!

Edited to add images:

I love the pictures, but I have to admit that for awhile the "big" cards did go into my collection. I am quickly changing my mind about them though.

My guess is that they're so scarce that there's little demand for them-- few know of their existence, and fewer are convinced of their availability.

Tim

Posted By: Todd Schultz
I was the second underbidder on the Mack, and might have won had I known how to properly use my snipe service

I would agree that there are not many set collectors interested in Worch's, but those chasing HOFers, Mack in particular or types are not afraid to search and bid. They do not come up often, but no less so than some other sets --m101-6, Gold Medal and Holsum come to mind.

It's hard to say what's undervalued anymore, but they sure haven't taken off like the other pre-war sets. Flippin' m101s are getting ridiculous, for example.
