Definitely hitting the Pro-Am Auction this winter

I may have bid in this one before I was officially invited, I hope my bid still counts

The invitational is an exclusive auction we do once a year and has stuff that we save for the entire year just for this sale.

The last one had the Curse of the Bambino Contract which brought $2,093,927 and the 1927 Babe Ruth World Series Ring Ruth Contract which brought 2,303,320.

This one features the Oscar Robertson Collection, the T206 cards from the Charles Bray Collection and the finest group of early baseball we have offered in years. This includes a 1903 Boston Red Sox Horner Cabinet of the first World Series Champions and a matching 1902 Chicago White Sox Horner Cabinet.

I'm awarding 1 point to both drcy and R0nnie for their comment!

The White Sox Horner cabinet is also from 1903. The 1902 team was managed by Clark Griffith, as seen in the center of the 1902 Horner cabinet below. The 1903 team was managed by Jimmy Callahan, who is in the center of the Horner cabinet that you have in this auction. The 1903 team also included Nick Altrock and Danny Green (just to the left of Callahan) and Frank Owen (upper right corner), none of whom were on the 1902 team.

That La Azora schedule card of Ty Cobb is super cool. I have never seen that one before. I could see the bidding getting really crazy for such an obscure Cobb item.

One i used to own....it brought around 5700 three years ago but I think would be decidedly more today, but who knows?

It may be too rare for its own good. With that being said, it is part of a known series of schedules made by La Azora. Safe to say the population on them are under 3 on each pose.

I get what you are saying about perhaps being too rare, but it is Ty Cobb. Cobb items overall really seem hot the past couple years. :)

Agreed, Cobb has been hot and will remain hot for years to come IMO. Speaking of schedules, Cobb and Lelands. Picked up this really cool schedule from Lelands last auction. Shows Addie Joss in his third year and Nap Lajoie half way throug his career. Lajoie was one of best hitters in baseball until a player named Cobb joined the league to give him a run for the title. There are a couple of early Cobb schedules I've seen from either 1907 or 1908 which look like this one.

Lajoie was so good they called it the Napoleons since he carried the team year after year.

Thanks for the heads up! We are going to make the necessary adjustments.

Since its clearly in the rules that:

"Please note that Lelands employees and affiliates may be bidding in this or any auctions",

I couldn't imagine any super bargains sneaking by

Thanks for that! I was going to post shortly after the auction went live that early bidding seemed very aggressive. In the last few auctions, including the Monthly auctions, I noticed the same thing with countless lots. I was pretty discouraged. Figured I was being too cheap. Only other venue where I have seen this is with PWCC.

Even Heritage and REA do not get really rolling until the last day. Sure some special lots get a lot of early activity but plenty of room to bid on stuff even on the last day. Sadly it has discouraged me from evening registering with Leland's and why I do not bid with PWCC.

Good luck to all,
Chase
