Lest we forget Steve...

that Gehrig & Ruth's 1933 Goudeys were captured by the master lensman as well.

So once again boardmembers, if you have them, show them!

Hey Graig. Let's see a preview of the Cobb/Conlon for those that won't be in Cleveland !!!

unless I stumble upon one in Cleveland... ya just never know.

1925 Lou Gehrig vintage original TYPE I photograph. Certainly one of Conlon's masterpieces.

On the back in Conlon's hand it reads... Lou Gehrig "His Home Run Smile"

Attachment 3749

BTW... The editorial paint around Gehrig's head is water soluble and will easily be removed by a professional at a latter time.

I hoped you all enjoyed viewing these wonderful Conlon images. Thank you and my very best wishes to all. Jimmy

"OLE PETE"-Type 1 Charles Conlon

This is killer..1926 is written on the back-also dated by the jersey. 1926 is important here as it was the year of his famous strikeout in the WS of Lazzeri. This was a day after an all night "binger" after his complete game win. It even looks like he "slept" with his hat on here :) GROVER led ST. LOUIS to their FIRST WORLD SERIES WIN with 2 wins and a save in the twilight of his career against the MIGHTY YANKEES. This story shows how truly talented and flawed he was. LEGENDARY

GKreindler 12-27-2009 12:11 AM

GREAT image, Ben. I LOVE the light reflections on his buttons. To me, that makes the photograph - it gives it a real breathable air.

Wonderful pick-up.

Some interesting comments about Matty's apparent aging on the reverse of this Type 1 (in Conlon's hand) make this one a favorite of mine...

some more of mine

I am on a Conlon kick so thought I would share some more of my photos and hopefully see what else is out there. Sorry for dupe images I posted on other threads.

Zach Wheat Charles Conlon Photo Front and Back. Not sure if message on the back in from Wheat himself. Paul Schrieber was a teammate of Wheat in 1923.

Good lord.. I think you made a good deal:) Was the sig exposed when you purchased it?

Wheat

Love the Wheat photo but doesn't look like his writing to me.

Runscott 08-07-2012 06:14 PM

My favorite Conlon (in my collection) is the same one Mike has. It is mounted and parts of the background were prep'd for publication.

I also love these two Leach pics - one with Pirates, one with Cubs.

Damn... I sure do love me some Conlons.

To Ben,
The Photo came with a heavy/thick scapbook paper attached to it. I was told that it was a conlon photo, I reasearched and found it on google images. The upper top of the paper was detached. My curiosity got me to think that maybe there was a Conlon stamp somewhere on it and maybe other writing. To my suprise when I started pealing it off I started to see some stamping and writing, I contiuned peel until I found the full conlon stamp and a note written by someone. There is also a Zach Wheat signature on the front that lost it's ink.
JSA wanted $150 at the show to authenticate the sig on back and front pass or fail I passed.
thanks
Mike

To Scott

with different style stamping and writing, Just love it.

Another pickup I was eager to share with Jimmy. He was so happy for me(Ruth conlon eyes in this format-2known). One thing that took me off guard is he said..
“ God I wish I could SEE what your collection will turn into”. I was taken back and said What are you talking about? We have many years. This was within the last 60 days.

Anyways.. there have probably been 10 conlon threads started after this one. Jimmy was “the template” on here. Thank you for reserecting this thread Mark!
