1800's Flying Dutchman Bat
1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, would love your opinion on this bat.... Confirmed that it's an 1800's bat and also confirmed that it was purchased from Wagners Hometown of Carnagie, Pennsylvania..... The person who sold it swears it was a very early Wagner bat it's not bigger than 5" and has a thicker handle.... No other markings other than the "Flying Dutchman" it weights 30oz and length is 32"....
I know he would later use a 40oz bat, but is it possible that this was a bat from just before he turned pro? Any information is welcomed and I appreciate you taking the time to chat with me... I've attached pictures as well.... I'll have to send pics over a couple of threads as I can only seem to add one at a time. Have a fantastic day! |

He wasn't given the nickname until the 1900's I believe. Bat is too light by that point to have been used by him.
I'm not a bat expert however. Tom C |

I think it's just stamped from someone who owned it. You will have to come up with some amazing evidence to convince everyone. 30 OZ. 32 " seems a stretch.

Bat is too thin as well. It's almost like a fungo bat. And the 32" is too short.

Without any proof. Your paying way too much. I wouldn't pay anything north of 500.

I agree with the others that it's almost certainly not a Honus Wagner bat. I see the auction just ended without the bat being sold.

You can buy it on eBay for $2700 or best offer.

$500?? would someone even be willing to buy it for over $100 |
I have no idea of the real value, but have to think $1700 is quite a stretch for a store model bat. It does have an interesting tie in with Wagner and I would like to believe that it did come from the Pittsburgh area, which would give credence to the local the in and give it some extra collectability.

I'm with Brock on this - I think $100 is a stretch .

From your pictures it looks more like a Massachusetts style town ball bat. The length and the weight and the dimensions would fit that profile.
