2017 National

Anyone know where in Chicago the 2017 National will be held?

HOF Yankees 08-09-2016 08:13 AM

its always held in Rosemont, Illinois at the Donald E. Convention Center, right by the airport

Yep, you fly into O'Hare, hop on the hotel shuttle for the hotel you're staying at, and ride it about one mile (straight across the freeway), and you're there!

The hotels are all next to/right across the street from the D.E. Stephens Convention Center.

It literally could not be easier :D

Chicago

I can't wait to get back to Chicago and attend the National. (I guess I will have to wait!) Most of the hotels offer free shuttles back and forth every 30 minutes, lots of good restaurants nearby. Just like AC, I wouldn't spend much time outside walking around after dark, but during daylight hours you can walk around without a problem.

I am waiting for the NSCC to announce their partner hotels so I can get mine booked right away. Several hotels offer decent discounts for the National.

Giordano's - they're all over Chicago.

Worst pizza of my life in Chicago. Who wants all the bread?

Dare I say Gino's East may be even better - and there's one on W. Devon in Rosemont, a stone's throw from the Donald E. You're welcome. ;)

that mystery meat is scary!!!!!

whitehse 08-10-2016 09:54 PM

That's an Italian beef with gardinara which, if you add motzarella and hold the gardinara and have the bread soaking wet, that might be the best sandwich ever.

And I am a huge fan of thick or thin pizza....just depends on my mood.

Being held the same week as the BB HOF inductions, so hof baseball guests might be a tad scarce.

Can't wait to be there next year!!

If you've never tried it I strongly recommend giving it a shot. Chicago deep dish is the best pizza I've ever had. There are plenty of great places in Chicago but you can't go wrong with Giordano's.

They also make a great thin crust pizza.

slidekellyslide 08-11-2016 12:13 PM

They made it wrong. Who puts the sauce on top of the cheese?

Den*nis O*Brien 08-11-2016 03:29 PM

Dan.. Giordano's Does It...

....and if you stuff it with spinich...ooolala!! It may be an acquired taste but..look what it did for Popeye! If National visitors want to do it right (in my humble opinion) they could travel about 15 min. south on River Road (Rt.45) to Irving Park Road and turn left (East) to 5927 West Irving Park Rd. to a very old Giordano's location in an old Italian neighborhood. A very good place to catch the acquired taste. I would also like suggest to visitors to try Super Dawg on Milwaukee Ave. for the Dog of the midwest ( Hint..Don't ask for ketchup) no slight intended to Nathans for the east coast crowd.

Net54 dinner?

Net 54 dinner, Leon? The one in Chicago in 2015 was terrific--thanks for giving so much back to the hobby!

Best always,

Larry

Think of it as savory pie and eat it with a fork and knife. You need to make the mental disconnect. Once I did that, I was able to enjoy both for what they are, because no, it's not pizza.

quinnsryche 08-12-2016 06:05 AM

Possible move?

Anyone hear rumors that after the 2018 National in Cleveland it will make a permanent yearly move to Chicago in 2019? I heard that from my dad yesterday.

skelly 08-12-2016 08:09 AM

What was the general thought about Atlantic City? Were dealers and those who attended happy? There was so much discussion before hand, but was it a success as far as attendance, customers spending money? Was it competitive with the Cleveland / Chicago Nationals?

While a central location, I think that would be an awful move for many people. Very short sighted thinking on their part if this is the case.

Jewish-collector 08-12-2016 11:47 AM

I heard it will rotate every year between Chicago and Cleveland.

bbcardzman 08-12-2016 12:10 PM

How about bringing it back to St. Louis?
It hasn't been here since '95

Best always,

Hopefully Leon says I remember this discussion correctly but he mentioned at my show yesterday as long as he gets the corporate sponsorship for the dinner, he is looking forward to having the Net 54 dinner in 2017 in Chicago.

Leon, if I misspoke or misunderstood what you said please delete this message :)

Gentlemen gentlemen. As with politics, no food fights allowed on the forum. Where is a moderator or peasant/forum owner? Just like cops, never around when you need one.

Leon 08-15-2016 02:29 PM

Tentatively, I want to do a Net54baseball Dinner again for 2017 in Chicago. They have usually been a lot of fun. If we have one I will definitely miss Mike Berkus speaking as he had done for the last 5-7? years running. RIP Mike. I like Chicago as a venue and of course would love to see one back in Dallas (or even Houston)...

+1. Mike was terrific with his stories of early times in the hobby at the 2015 dinner. He will always and definitely be missed!

The little 2 floor strip plaza chinatown thats a train stop has the best chineese food i ever had. Many great restaurants that have all the ethnic variations. I heard san francisco is the best ever but i would feel safe calling chicago's version as a number 2 as far as the united states i concerned
