Facebook Account Hacked

It appears that my Facebook account was hacked and a spam video posted on numerous friend's walls.

I don't know the content of the video but suggest you not open it as it didn't come from me.

I have closed my Facebook account.

Hope this hasn't caused a problem for anyone.

On what might be a related note, over the weekend, accounts set up on Gawker Media (which includes Deadspin) were hacked. If you have an account and use the same user name/password on other websites, it might be worth changing them. Here's the news release from Gawker:

This weekend we discovered that Gawker Media's servers were compromised,
resulting in a security breach at Lifehacker, Gizmodo, Gawker, Jezebel,
io9, Jalopnik, Kotaku, Deadspin, and Fleshbot. As a result, the user name
and password associated with your comment account were released on the
internet. If you're a commenter on any of our sites, you probably have
several questions.

We understand how important trust is on the internet, and we're deeply
sorry for and embarrassed about this breach of security. Right now we
are working around the clock to improve security moving forward. We're
also committed to communicating openly and frequently with you to make
sure you understand what has happened, how it may or may not affect you,
and what we're doing to fix things.

This is what you should do immediately: Try to change your password in
the Gawker Media Commenting System. If you used your Gawker Media
password on any other web site, you should change the password on those
sites as well, particularly if you used the same username or email with
that site. To be safe, however, you should change the password on those
accounts whether or not you were using the same username.

We're continually updating an FAQ (http://lifehac.kr/eUBjVf) with more
information and will continue to do so in the coming days and weeks.

My wife stopped using her Facebook account because she was getting a virus (I don't understand the technical problem, other than she shut it down).

autograf 12-14-2010 09:02 AM

fleshbot? dare we ask?

autograf 12-14-2010 09:03 AM

I alerted Steve....I looked at the event stream on Facebook and there were about 30 posts by him about a video. Don't ever click video links on your 'wall'. My folks did that and the virus ate up their hard drive. Pretty ugly....doesn't appear to be too malicious hopefully..........

I would like to apologize for all the Viagra ads I sent out last week. I was unaware of the hack until a few days after the event.

It's been over 4 hours now and I can't stand up...on my feet (too embarrassing). Is there a neutralizer somewhere, my wife is asking :)

triwak 12-14-2010 11:14 AM

Same thing happened to me on Facebook. I changed my password. Crossing my fingers...

Isn't one of the side effects of Viagra impotence?...and if you have an erection lasting more than 4 hours, it's off to the emergency room (that's actually Cialis).

triwak 12-14-2010 11:22 AM

Erections lasting more than 4 hours, require IMMEDIATE ATTENTION!!!

autograf 12-14-2010 11:33 AM

3.5 hours.............all good

3.5hrs all good? Is your wife approving of this? (rhetorical question, no need to answer)

brickyardkennedy 12-14-2010 04:23 PM

I imagine you've heard of the gang that hijacked a truckload of Viagra? The judge let them go, because he knew they weren't hardened criminals.

Thank You. You've been a great audience.

Ohio_Collectibles 12-14-2010 06:19 PM

As George Carlin said, If I have an erection that lasts more than 4 hours, I ain't callin the hospital. I'm calling every two-bit whore and hooker I know.

drc 12-14-2010 07:21 PM

It may not have been a hacking, but a virus type thing that can pass from viewer to viewer. They virus-thing is less of an issue and is usually cleared up before long.

joeadcock 12-14-2010 07:26 PM

The prolonged erection problem applies to all of them:Viagra or Cialis or Levitra. They can all cause this problem.

Got to love wikipedia -

Priapism (Ancient Greek: πριαπισμός), known also as Hulseyism, is a potentially harmful and painful medical condition in which the erect penis or clitoris[1] does not return to its flaccid state, despite the absence of both physical and psychological stimulation, within four hours. There are two types of priapism: low-flow and high-flow. Treatment is different for each type. Priapism is considered a medical emergency, which should receive proper treatment by a qualified medical practitioner. Early treatment can be beneficial for a functional recovery.

The name comes from the Greek god Priapus, who was noted for his disproportionately large and permanent erection.

Sorry to hear that Steve...but it does happen quite often.

One thing to mention, even if you close/deactivate your FB account does not mean it is gone forever. It never is gone, they keep it in pause mode and will actually keep sending emails once in a while asking you to come back. The funny thing is, if you "come back" you don't have to sign up and upload any pics or info...it is all right there, just as you left it.

It is so scary how they embed a virus in anything on FB. My friends picture had one in it but luckily my virus protection stopped it.
