1961 Topps Magic Rub Offs insert

Today at our local show I picked up the last three "rub-offs" to complete my set (Ernie "Bingo" Banks, Detroit Tigers, Pittsburgh Pirates). Dealer also had several of the team logos priced at $1 each, and I bought all he had (25). When I got home I noticed the backs on about 1/2 of the "rub-offs" were different than I have seen before.
"Set 2-Eighteen Baseball Emblems"
"Collect The Entire Series"

36 "rub-offs" listed in the set. Series I 18 players, Series II 18 Team Emblems?

Found one on COMC (Pirates). Were these in OPC packs as well? Look to be much rarer than the standard back.

the Standard Catalog shows 1965 as the first year OPC?

And there's no French on them... maybe a different print shop? Maybe they ran out and reordered the backing? Get PSA to recognize them and you've got something.

You might be after you put the rare back ones on eBay and Al has to get them to have the set with both backs :D.

topps insert

I cant recall Ernie Banks ever being called " Bingo " ??

I sold my set a while back but kept scans, none had the new back Larry found. Before 1965 Topps sold baseball cards directly in Canada but I've never seen a back like those before.

I don't know how rare these backs are going to end up being but I figured I better not take a chance and got the Bingo Banks on eBay. Now I need the Cubs rub off with the rare back.

Bingo to Bango

Bingo!

Pas "bingo," m'sieur... "banco."

I'll take the little darlings anyway...

Back today at our monthly show I purchased the 28 remaining rub offs for $1 each including 12 more with the different backs (all 12 were team emblems)

Great prices. Surprised they were still available.

Turns out the 1965 Football Ruboffs have this reverse as well, I think all of them, not just some. Just no set 1 or 2 distinction:

Want to thank Larry for sending me an example of the different backed Ruboffs to go with my set
