Remaining unopened product

I've been backfilling some of my 2006-12 Topps Heritage sets and see a fair number of unopened boxes on eBay. This got me thinking- what percentage of not just Heritage but any of the (relatively) more limited production sets are hanging out there in sealed boxes or cases? With some of the 'hit' inserts like autographs and relics, working on a master set of any similar set could well be frustrating because if it?
I will start off with 15% as a possible number. Ideas?

This is an interesting thought on modern collecting. There was a long time in which leaving a box or packs aside, unopened, was no big deal to the rest of the collecting public. I mean with millions of cards issued each year, even from the more scarce products left unopened, there are plenty of examples of all singles available to obtain.

Now in the era of inserts, there are scarce numbered cards (down to single copies) that may never see the light of day along with redemptions & codes that go unredeemed and will eventually expire.

It makes little sense (to me, at least) to keep unopened boxes of newer cards from that perspective. I assume most of the unopened new product is speculation/gambling, hoping that the chance of something good (auto, 1/1, etc) or a top condition card to have graded lurks inside and drives the prices.

I'm sitting here wondering why an unopened hobby box of 2013 Topps Heritage is being sold for the same amount today as it was 5 years ago. Whatever happened to inventory turnaround?

No Aaron Judge or Kris Bryant cards in the Heritage box. There has to be some reason or chase card to increase the box price after release. Most boxes go down over time.

2013 Heritage has just enough big hits - mostly Trout and Harper with all their variations - that the retail price is kind of understandable. But you are right for most of the older Heritage sets.
