3000 Hit trivia

Honest attempts only (I.e. No book or internet searching)

1. Of the 16 oldest franchises (pre1961 expansion) which 3 have never had a player get their 3000th hit in their uniform?

2. Which franchise has had 3 players get their 3000th hit while playing for them?

3. Who was the first 500 HR club member to get their 3000th hit?

4. The 1970's and 1990's were each witness to a 3000th hit 7 times. How many of these 14 can you name?

I will give it a go to get things started:

1. Phillies and athletics

2. The Cardinals

3. Mays ?

I 'll wait for the rest to fill out....

1. Senators/Twins? Carew must have been on Angels by time he did it. Or was Winfield there? Not immediately thinking of any Cubs either.

2. How about the Pirates? Wagner Waner Clemente?

4. 1970s. Clemente Mays Aaron Yaz? Brock? Rose Kaline
1990s. Winfield Molitor Murray Ripken Brett Yount Gwynn Boggs
oops that's 8 either Gwynn or Boggs probably not until 2000s not sure which

3000 Hit trivia

1. Cap Anson achieved his 3000th hit with the Cubs franchise.
Dodgers and Phillies are correct. Still looking for 3rd franchise.

2. Waner was a Brave when he reached 3000.

The Colts became the White Sox, not the Cubs.

4. Correct! Although it was Ripken who reached 3000 after the 1990's. He finished 1999, 9 hits shy of the mark.

?
Baseball Reference has the Colts as part of the Cubs franchise.

So does The Baseball Cube.

I thought the Colts became the White Stockings, who then became the White Sox? I always associated Anson with the White Sox and not the Cubs but maybe I've been wrong the whole time.

Peter_Spaeth 08-16-2017 10:57 AM

So how about the White Sox on 1.

No guess, I do know Boggs and Gwynn got 3000 a day apart and Gwynn did it first. That was in 1999. As a huge Boggs fan Gwynn beating him by a day was sad.:( I am also pretty sure Ripken didn't get his till 2000.

Peter_Spaeth 08-16-2017 12:47 PM

Is there such a thing as a Boggs fan? :D As great as he was as a Sox person I never had much use for him, he always seem to be more interested in fighting with the official scorer than winning games although that may not be fair. I used to say he was the worst .350 hitter I had ever seen LOL. The other thing was the guy had power, he just sacrificed it for the sake of his damn batting average, which did not to me seem in the team's best interest. I was glad to see him go.

Then the As but someone already guessed that. But it has to be the As, Cobb got 3000 years before he played there.
