Opinions: Honus Wagner Photo?

A person believes they've found a Honus Wagner photo from his minor league stint on Warren. They claim he is the top right player in the photo. What do you think?

I'm not sure that I buy it. His face/jawline seems a little thin. But, it's definitely the year Honus was on the team, because his brother Al 'Butts' Wagner is present. I'm 100% sure that's Al.

Based on another Warren photo that sold years ago that had names written underneath, I believe that the players in this photo are:

Gus McGinnis (or maybe Tom Vickery) / Bill Carrick / Honus?
Franklin - The Manager / Unknown / Unknown
Cooper / Al 'Butts' Wagner

Thoughts?

I agree with you that the top right player has a thinner face than Honus; I don't think it's him. I've pasted below minor league images of Honus/unknown/Honus. Edited to add: The linked picture is clearly cropped. Honus could be among the players who've been cut out of the photo.

I do t think there is any way that is Honus Wagner in the first photo.

I've seen the full photo too, and the other players (sans one) were identifiable, and no Honus to be found.

So, if we all agree that's not Honus in the upper right, he's not in the picture. I had read that he hurt his arm and missed a few weeks mid-season. So, maybe the photo is from that span... or, he just flaked on the photo.

The only other named guy I can think it may be is Ice Box Chamberlain, who had an Old Judge card. But, I'm not sure it's him either.

I hope this photo doesn’t end up on ebay like the “Babe Ruth” photo and the “Sam Thompson” portrait

Here it is. In an obscure local auction house. Not a good sign..

I agree it is not Honus Wagner, but Swann is definitely not an obscure local auction house, it just does not do much that this forum collects.

They should auction off what they know, not what they don't know. It is obvious they don't know what Hans looks like.

It didn't even occur to the auctioneers that since "Uncle Al Wagner" had been identified by a previous owner of the photo, then that person would probably also have known and identified Honus Wagner, even if Al had been related by marriage.

I agree. That seemed like a pretty big hole in their logic.

And to clarify, I was not the owner/seller.

I had found that auction and didn't out want to draw any attention to it; either positive or negative.

I just wanted to know if I was crazy for not seeing what they were claiming.
