Venus and Serena

They play tonight. They first played each other in a tournament in 1998. IMO it's remarkable. Venus is in something like her 25th year of tournament tennis.

That is amazing. I don’t follow tennis, just a couple sports, but you seem to have at least a toe in most sports out there, Peter. Where do these two athletes rank in their generation, across the spectrum of sports?

Serena is arguably the greatest female athlete of all time, and her dominance in women's tennis is the equivalent of any male's dominance of his sport, in my opinion. Venus is very good and has remarkable longevity, but she is not in the same league as Serena. She might, though, still be top ten all time in women's tennis.

We've been lucky to see IMO, the best Womens and Mens players ever at the same time, Serena and Roger Federer.

And Nadal and Djokovic as well, IMO.

Those are some seriously good genes (not to mention work ethic, etc. to put it all together).

It would be more incredible if Serena (most likely, in my opinion) wouldn't have taken some sort of HGH.

Venus is the more incredible story in my opinion.

People have accused Venus too.

Little sister won easily tonight, no surprise.

Woman's sports for some reason allow for women of an advanced age to still dominate more than men in men's sports.....imo..

Funny I think the opposite is true -- in swimming and gymnastics and figure skating, for example, teenage girls usually dominate.

Yeah I'm with Pete on this one. Name all the Dominant women's tennis players over 32. I;m pretty sure the list is Serena. I was thinking Navratilova, but she only won one major after 32.

They have, but I think it's a weaker accusation. Look at her physical progression vs. Serena's. Night and day. If anything, Venus took some sort of HGH/steroid to combat the medical condition(s) she's dealt with.

Definitely agree. Behind Serena, there is an incredible amount of parity in women's tennis because the next crop of younger girls keep coming year after year. Sloane Stephens because the most recent up-and-comer that I can think of on the American side, with other, younger international players having an equal amount if not more success.

Women's golf has even had a lot of parody.

Aquarian Sports Cards 09-01-2018 02:51 PM

parity though.

And in tennis, on the men's side you have Federer still winning majors at 37. Jake, no clue what you are talking about here. What sports did you have in mind exactly where women are better at an older age?

I would offer the following

Bridge
Mahjong

and as a footnote I once cared for a patient who competed and won the national championship in tennis in the over 75 age bracket. A younger chick took her title two years later when my patient was 77.

And yes, three years later she claimed the championship again in the over 80 age bracket. (True Story)

I guess we should wait 40 years before writing off Venus, Serena and Federerer.:D

It seems you were successful in removing her splinter.
