October 2011 Pickups
 

Well,
It's Midnight here in Indiana, so I thought I would start the October Pickup Thread. 2 New E98s which get me up to 92 different ones! Thanks to a couple fellow board members for these!

A few of these came during the week(technically september), but I was pretty busy this week, so I figured I'd just list 'em now. Some new HOFers for the collection. The Baker and Veeck I'm counting toward my rookies. And then another Mel Harder for the collection.. He's one of my all-time favorite Indians. Probably because he was friends with my grandfather, and he was the first professional base ball player I ever met..

Trae - think of it as him having a mole!

I hadn't bought a card over $200 in a looooong time. It's nice when there is a rare month I have wiggle room!

One e104-2 w/ a nadja back, one cracker jack from Mark, and one e104-iii I cannot wait to get from Leon!

Came in the mail today. I know it's not baseball, but somewhat baseball related, as he was famous for performing and popularizing "Casey at the Bat". I'm glad to add it to my collection...

My only T205. Wasn't sure whether to put it under October pickups or "my best card". It's both. :D

Brian, what card is that of Schang?

With the economy dragging and the collectible market soft, cards which once sold for quite a bit are available at low prices. Prices on D310s are about 1/3 of what they were in similar condition a coupe of years ago.

Love that schang, brian. Some of those d310's went for 1/8 -1/10th what they were going for a few years ago!

Picked up another postcard for my growing collection. Thanks to Brian Van Horn for selling me this one!

The card is a 1921 self developing card of Schang. Leon has or had one of Alexander from the series.

you know you are an addict when you need a back variation of a card most have almost no knowledge of to start with :)

As a Clevelander, I've been wanting this one for a while. Finally found one for a somewhat reasonable price. Brookside park was notable for once holding the record for largest attendance at a baseball game in 1914. I've never seen a confirmed number, but have heard anywhere from 105,000 to 150,000. Postmarked Jan 1910.

I have to say I'm very impressed with Sterling. They sent my invoice the day after the auction, they take Paypal, and I now have my winnings 6 days after the auction!:D

Michael- How did you know it was that very quarter Ruth had in his pocket? You must be Kreskin or something!!

Since I only show the front I didn't splurge on a D or S......when I was a kid I collected coins. It seems coins, comics and cards all have much of the same audience. I am looking at a nice S-VDB penny though :)...and a 1948 P Franklin half...., but I digress
