Basic 1947-66 Exhibits question

Since it is obvious that many people get this wrong, including the grading companies, can someone (Adam?) confirm that the difference between a "script" signature and a "plain" signature on these? My understanding is that the "script" signature is the one that appears at the bottom left of the cards, usually (always?) in white, with a reasonably consistent font, while the "plain" signature is basically NOT this (and can appear in various forms/locations). Is that correct?

Hi Taylor:

Not Adam, but.....

Historically you are correct. I don't do grading, but have heard from others that TPG Co's have been getting theses wrong recently and/or changed their views.

Just another reason, along with grading reprint Exhibits as originals, I will not give my $$ to them.

I cannot speak to TPG nomenclature. There is a series of cards with the same font printing that looks like this:

I am not sure how the TPGs reference this variation. I've always thought of it as script printing. It doesn't really look like a signature to me. The other versions look like they are signed:

Perhaps the better distinction is hand lettered versus machine printed?

Thanks, Fred and Adam, for your input. That's my understanding as well.

It's how various 'guides' list these (script vs plain). And how both the flips on some graded cards are wrong as well as those who list raw cards on ebay (among other places).
