OT:Antiques Rdshw Allen and Ginter (last night)

Posted By: Rob Ray
Please excuse the OT,Leon. Wasn't sure where else to post this.
Last night's Antique's Roadshow featured an elderly woman who brought in several HUNDRED A and G's,along with the boxes they oringinallycame in.
MOST of the cards (that were shown)seemed to be in EXM-NM shape.
NONE,except one horse racing card,were sports-related.
Still, the "guess-timator" only guessed their value at several hundred dollars, due to their being non-sports related A and Gs. I believe some of them were even proofs,or samples. They ALL looked gorgeous.
Could it be possible that non-sport A and Gs,moslty in great condition,AND their cartons...numbering in the several hundreds,be valued at only a few bucks a piece?
I was just curious.
When I saw the condition of the cards,I was expecting an "auction estimate" of tens of thousands of dollars....I'm a little bit of a newbie with A and Gs....
Rob
Posted By: Tom Boblitt
last lot that we talked about of the A&G's at auction. They had N28 and N29 baseball in them but MANY MANY other A&G non-sports as well. Close to $30K with the juice. Most of the A&G non-sports cards are $10-$30 in nice VGEX to EX shape. Sets like the N15 Generals and 3-4 others will bring more than that and certain cards within sets will bring more. I've been outbid on raw A&G singles from relatively easy sets in the $50 and above range. Check out what the VGEX to EX 50 card sets sell for in Mastronet and other auctions. Generally $1200-$2500 or so depending on grades. So.....no....someone was sandbagging with that few hundred dollar estimate..........

Posted By: Jerry Spillman

That show aired about a year. The appraiser was Phil Weiss. As I recall the estimate was a bit low but reasonable. I think Rob is accurate in what he remembers as the appraisal given for the cards.
