Our baseball club by Noah Brooks, 1884 1st edition
 

Hi All,
I just got a look at this 1884 book by Noah Brooks titled "Our baseball club and how we won the championship". Binder is still tight and pages in very good condition. Cover has some wear. In all, still in good condition. I am trying to get some valuation on this book for our local Historical Society. They are in need of money and may place this book up for sale. Any and all help would be appreciated. My search indicates any where from $350 to $1800. Condition is the key, but because of its rarity, would appreciate input from some of the experts here on this site.

Bill, that is a nice early baseball novel. It comes in many bindings, although many prefer the chromolithograph cover you show. Your copy does not really appear in very good condition, but this particular cover is tough to find in great shape. The spine appears to gone in spots which would be a big issue. I do not see it bringing more than 100 or so unless someone is being charitable to the historical society or is not aware of what might be out there. I know of a copy that has been on the market for years at 1850 but that-is inscribed by the author, and has not sold.
Good book, Spalding connection, nice cover, but comes up from time to time in better condition.

Thank You, the binding is in better shape then it looks. The binding is still tight, as I had no fear of the book coming apart in my hand when I turned the pages. I should go through the book better, maybe a H. Wagner card was used as a book mark.....LOL
