Sorry, I know this isn't a baseball card but wanted to see what everyone though of this card. 1972 Topps Mercury Morris, this card appears to have the back printed on the wrong side and the front is blank, the card is also heavily creased. Is this scrap?

I would imagine that a set (issue, player, or team) collector may be interested in adding it to a collection

Blank backs, blank fronts, wrong fronts and back combos can be found pretty regularly under searches for "Topps variation" or "Topps error". They do not get recognition in master set checklists and so value as Neal mentioned usually involves whether the player is a star and desirable to collectors of that player as an oddity. My experience is blank backs with a star front seem more in demand than blank fronts. But I do not collect football cards.

That is awesome!!! It is scrap for sure. I have never collected football so I can not say how rare it is because I have never looked. Maybe it was the only one taken from the factory or maybe someone took a pickup load.

I love the card too! Morris was my favorite player when I was growing up, even had the white jersey with the aqua numbers outlined in white and orange with the same colors wrapped around the sleeves. This was back around '71 or '72. Nice memory for me.

Thanks! Do you know, is the Boog a sp or just less interest which would account for none showing up on eBay? Is there much interest in these cards at all?

I don't really know that much about them, but I'm sure someone on here would. I know I'm interested in the Brooks ones and would love to pick one up in nice shape.

Powell is not an SP. AL #7 McCraw is the SP prize card Powell goes with.

Anything ex-mt or better from that set is a very tough grade, if it grades out. The Powell looks like it might have been freed from the packet via exacto knife on the left side. It might not grade for that. Still, worth a shot on a PSA bulk submission IMO.

These '54 and '55 Red Mans and '71 Bazooka cards arrived this week as I continue to build my Clemente/Mays/Aaron/Frank Howard collections.

Saw Frank and was sure Robinson would follow. What puts Howard in such elite company for you?

I grew up in the D.C. area and was 7 when the Senators moved. Frank Howard and Clemente were my first baseball heroes. I got to meet Hondo a few times in the 1990s in Florida (where I now live) when he was coaching for various teams -- he's a truly nice guy who enjoyed talking about baseball and the Senators. Howard stuff is a lot more reasonably priced than the other guys, although for some reason his 1971 Kellogg's card is very scarce.

I've lived in the DC area for my entire 73+ years, and Frank "Hondo" Howard was about all we had to cheer for in the late 1960's, before our pathetic, expansion Senators left DC for Texas and we suffered for 34 years without a MLB team. This is why I collect Frank Howard cards, even though I am mostly a pre-War collector. Plus, as George said, Hondo is a one heck of a nice guy - truly a gentle giant.

He was a very big dude. Boog is a huge guy and Frank makes him look average at best.

Nice pickup. This card at the height of "Ryan-mania" in the early 1990's sometimes went as high as $200 in EX or better shape. I remember drooling over one in the local pawn shop, where the back room was a mini card shop. Fast forward to the 21st century: I picked up a mid-grade one for around $30 a few years ago...

And they did a decent job of painting over his Mets hat.

I found a '63 Topps Rose that I'm happy with.

In that All Star photo Howard makes Frank Robinson and Reggie look like skinny kids! :eek: Big Man

I've always thought it was a shame Jim Fregosi's card was in the 1st series of 1972 and Ryan's was in the 5th series. Fregosi's card shows him in an Angels uniform, then Topps made a "Traded" card of him in a Mets uniform in the last series. Ryan's card was issued late enough that they accounted for the trade by airbrushing that ridiculous Angels hat. Would've been much cooler to have Ryan pictured with the original Mets hat, then in a Traded card later.

I rarely if ever visit a town that has a card shop and have time to visit it. This weekend was different though, and I had some free time while on a short vacation. Anyway, this shop had 400-500 cards from each year of the 60s in mainly collector grade shape. I went through the 68s and found 7 MB cards including the Seaver and also through the 67s and found the 2 cards sans the more typical traded statements. However, having never seen the 61 Jim Golden variation, I was pleasantly surprised when I found one. A few pages later in the 61s binder, and out of place, a second Golden card appeared, and yes, it too was the 293 print defect variation. Minus the modestly priced Seaver, all of these other variations were had for the price of inexpensive commons.

Nice cards and some great grades to boot!

Great pick ups, I had a friend that took a couple years to come across the Golden with the print spot in the perfect spot to make the 8 look like a 3.

The colors on this 1950 Bowman still pop. When I walked by it on the shelf it's like Technicolor. Bowman really was head and soulders above topps, in my opinion, in the 50s. I love the 53 and 55 Bowmans as well.

These were like Pop-Tarts on steroids. Extra sugar, extra frosting. One could get you a sugar high for hours.

Never heard of or seen Danish Go-Rounds. Kind upset about it, they look good.

Born in 1966, I barely remember the Danish Go Rounds. Probably haven't seen or thought of them since early 70s, that picture brings back memories. My mom usually bought Pop Tarts though.
