Jim Brown Rookie - recent sale

Saw this on CU: http://www.ebay.com/itm/351758390342...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

The point was made the last auction for a PSA 8 ended around 4500. I checked the pop report, there are around 180 8s.

Also, just for fun I did an eBay search and found 4SC sold one just this month for $6,499.99. I was really hoping the cert was the same, but it wasn't. If I tried something like that (buy for 6.5 sell for 17.5), I'm sure I'd lose money on it :)

There's either some crazy money or crazy good shillers out there right now ...

Another PSA 8 is in auction and with 6 days to go and already at $8,988. Will be interesting to see where it ends.

A little off topic: I have been selling pre 70 football like crazy. Stuff that had been sitting, broken up by set, is now flying out the door at shows and eBay. I think that causal collectors are finding out what we already knew. There is just less FB than baseball. I believe the trend will continue to basketball and hockey.

I've always thought of the print runs of the the sports as follows:

Baseball = X
Football = X/2
Basketball = X/4
Hockey = X/10

I know that isn't exactly right but those are the metrics I have used.

I like the theory, Matt.

I have wondered for years with especially with the popularity of the NFL as to why the values were where they have been sitting.

HOF football and vintage basketball is woefully underpriced.

I just wish I'd have gotten the memo say last May when a 1972 PSA 9 Staubach sold for $4,450... vs. the one that sold a couple days ago for $17,766.

Gulp.

It's mind boggling. Do you really want to be running around the chairs when the music stops though? I mean, really, can they keep going UP, UP, UP forever? Next thing you know, a Jim Brown rookie in a PSA 8 will be a $100,000 card.

As July 4 approaches..i remember the talk of the neighborhood on July 4 back in the day when neighbors talked to neighbors the most on that day versus any other time of the year was how high the property values were..everyone smiling and grilling angus beef hotdogs and nice sirloin hamburgers.....then for many years you didnt hear anyone talking about property values.....im sure this july 4 some people may talk now of a bit a rebound in values but the hot dogs will not be angus beef and the hamburgers wont be top sirloin....

Here's a link so we can see where this one ends. It shot through the 6500 point quickly: http://www.ebay.com/itm/371667244627?rmvSB=true

This would be my luck too! I would probably be the last man standing with the "hot potato". About 2 months back at a local card show, a guy had a really nice psa 7 for $1000 but I didn't pull the trigger.

I'm hoping the current HoF vintage "market" adjusts and goes back to relatively normal prices. I cancelled my trip to the National due to the current prices (I mainly only collect HoF rookie cards and just got back into collecting this Jan.). :(

Canceling on the assumption that deals won't be had is a mistake because there are dealers at the show who don't get the memos. I found a very tough card last year way below market from a dealer who wasn't paying attention.

It's because you have the good stuff, Matt!
