Kaline Opinions

1 Attachment(s)
I got this Kaline yesterday TTM and I'm not sure if he signed it.I have a ball
signed by him and the signatures don't look the same.Wanted to see what
some other opinions were.

Mr. Zipper 02-05-2013 07:49 PM

I've seen other reports of Kaline signatures like this of late. Very rushed and careless.

I think it's probably real, and the key takeaway is: Al is getting tired of signing.

39special 02-05-2013 07:52 PM

Thanks Steve.I'm sure he gets alot of requests. His signature has really changed!

chaddurbin 02-05-2013 07:55 PM

yes he's gotten lazy. more like ai instead of al now.

isaac2004 02-05-2013 08:07 PM

Crap I sent a TTM to him last week, how much money did you send?

$10

jimjim 02-05-2013 08:17 PM

This is how he has been signing for a while now. If you include $10, then this is more than likely the autograph you are going to get back. I guess he thinks his autograph is worth more and won't give you the show sig unless you pony up the money.

I know you are going to be upset. You send a player in the Hall of Fame. ten dollars and you think he signs poorly. What does it cost for a player who won rookie of the year? $100 or more. You pay a person that played one year that kind of money and You are upset because for ten dollars this is who the man is that you are paying ten dollars to and he signs it . What do you think you would get from the stars of today? This is his record match it to any of players today.
18× All-Star (1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1959², 1960, 1960², 1961, 1961², 1962², 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1971, 1974)
World Series champion (1968)
10× Gold Glove Award winner (1957, 1958, 1959, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967)
1955 AL batting title
1973 Roberto Clemente Award
1969 Hutch Award
1968 Lou Gehrig Memorial Award
Detroit Tigers #6 retired.

I really am insulted for your lack of respect.

All I asked for was opinions if this was his signature.I wasn't complaining about a sloppy signature.I'm not upset at all!!

shelly 02-05-2013 08:51 PM

Sorry Shelly

campyfan39 02-05-2013 09:01 PM

The sig is good IMO.
Mr. Kaline is one of the best TTM'ers around.
He typically signs for $5
I don't think anyone was disparaging Al
**ducks**

shelly 02-05-2013 09:02 PM

No problem, you had nothing to do with who I was giving a reply to.:)

I am super happy he signs at all. If i can get his autograph and the money goes to him and not some ebay chump, its a win win

chaddurbin 02-05-2013 09:19 PM

i'm fine with the sig myself, can't beat it for $10. better than paying 4x-10x for contemporary hof'ers during his time.

Ok then you and I differ. These are the comments that bothered me.

I guess these remarks are not insulting. If they where sent to his agent or even to him. Would you think this was a complement or not a little bit insulting?

Maybe some day I'll be a big shot and judge other people and their items like some I know. It reminds of something my father taught me a long time ago, "That this is what's great about America. Every idiot has the right to his own opinion".

As this older Kaline sig shows, the older auto is definitely more distinct/legible, but the "l" in Al was smallish back then too:

If you are asking if I think you took yet another thread and turned it into something completely negative, then my answer is yes.

As far as Mr. Kaline's signature...

I have noticed that the quality of his signature has been in the decline. Let's also keep in mind that this man is 78 years old. He probably has gotten tired of autograph requests after so many years. I've heard many stories of him being a little grumpy when asked for his autograph, but he always obliges. I was born and raised in Michigan and have been a die hard Tiger fan my entire life. Mr. Kaline has always been a class act and has made himself available to the community. I have many of his autographs in my collection obtained both personally and through the mail and never had a negative experience.

I'm giving my opinion because I was asked for it. I personally wasn't offended by any comments on this thread. You are all grown adults and can say whatever you want.

I want to thank everyone for there opinions.
