Old Time radio is great..
 

Sorry, couldnt figure out where to put this. I recently purchased a CD that has a few old baseball and football games, horse races, fights on it. I just think its awesome that after all these years we can still relive things through our imagination, which only radio can do. Radio painted a picture in the mind, and you were left to fill in the details.

Im listening to a Washington Senators/Indians game w Walter Johnson as one of the announcers and I just smile. Its so cool, pardon me for being like a kid, to hear him. Plus, he jokes about getting lost for a personal appearance the night before at a supermarket..haha.

I wonder what all those peoples famililies did w any autographs Walter gave out that night:o

I've been a fan of Old Time Radio for many years. Here's a great site to get lost in. There are many old sports broadcasts and shows like Bill Stern, Dizzy Dean and Double Play with Durocher and Day.

Be sure to check out a show called Biographies in Sound. The biographies of Durocher and Connie Mack are awesome. During the Mack show, there is an interview with a player who played with Connie in 1902.

I can't tell you how many hours I've spent listening to these great shows.

Thanks for the link. My dad started me on shows like the Shadow, Suspense, Dragnet, Inner Sanctum, and the like. and now, I can hear sports like this, its simply awesome.

Don't overlook some of the record albums released in the 1950s and 1960s as a way of tapping into the great baseball voices of the past.

I really recommend finding "The Best of Waite Hoyt in the Rain" and "Waite Hoyt Talks Babe Ruth". Hoyt broadcast the Cincinnati Reds games for years and during rain delays he would tell stories of days gone by...that's what these two albums consist of. Hearing him tell the tales with the sound of the rain pounding on the Crosley Field roof...well, it doesn't get much better than that. Both albums are readily available on ebay (disclaimer: not mine); they might be out on CD or on the web.

And to pile on the previous posts...there's a large number of 1950s broadcasts (particularly Brooklyn Dodger games) out there to be had.

The oldest complete game I know of is the 9/20/34 Yankees-Tigers game broadcast by Tigers announcer Ty Tyson. The oldest complete World Series game is Game 3 of the 1936 match between the Giants and Yankees.

There are plenty of fragments that were used in old retrospective shows but I don't think the whole games were in circulation.

Buyer beware: some of the highlight records include modern "recreations".
