University of Texas Longhorns RC Collection
1 Attachment(s)
Hi y'all. I'm putting together my RC's of Longhorns. I'll add more as I dig them up or pick them up. I don't know how modern I want to go with the collection. I truly dislike the designs of 99.9% of all modern issues and that each player could have dozens, if not more, "RC's". Two good things about the modern ones: I should be able to pick them up for next to nothing and I can easily get a card of them in their college uniform.

Awesome collection. Do you have a Nobis rookie? Funny thing, my mom dated him at UT before she met my dad.
If you want a bunch of newer stuff, I can send a bunch to you. I have a huge VY collection and at least one extra college auto I could send your way. Most of my stuff is in UT uniforms If you don't like the newer stuff, you could always pick up Heritage from '02-present. There are also a bunch of other retro themed sets out there |

UT Football
I love old UT Football, heartbreaking these days though.

Longhorn Rookies
Cooper your cards are simply outstanding and some of the real highlights in my college collection!
Matt, I have enjoyed seeing your Longhorn cards even though as Cooper knows it hurts a Razorback fan to say that. Of course Tommy Nobis stopping Namath in his tracks in the 1965 Orange Bowl helped Arkansas win the true 1964 National Championship! |

Post CFL. I'd never seen this card before. His nickname was "Tex"
|
Very nice! I wish there were some former Mountaineers in the old CFL stuff. If there is, I just don't know about it.

Matt,
It was great to meet you today and see a Lansford card in person. Well, great to see you again, I guess...since we did chat at last month's show and I just had no idea "this" thread is "you." -Kin |

I feel like you said Saturday that you're on Twitter. If so, will you message me (or post here) your ID?
|
I haven't used it yet. I don't know how. But I'm VintageSetBuilder@mcharlton81
|
Twitter can be pretty active as it applies to current cards, but I haven't found a lot of vintage collectors on there. They may be there and I just haven't found them. Who knows?

Ox Emerson. This is not the '33 but will do for now. Ox is the first Longhorn to appear on a "card", I believe.

So this is now a Longhorns thread. The RC angle was too limited. I apologize if these next few programs make make all you Razorback, Fighting Irish, or Volunteers a little sick.

Picked this cool item up. It's a ruler that has the '63 schedule on the back.

Very cool stuff! Do you have a list of all U of Tx players who have been on a card / matchbook / bread label / premium prior to 1970? How many of those do you have and what are you missing?
jeff |
Jeff,
I do have a working list. It is quite limited for early UT stuff. I've had to be happy with picking up year books form 1898-1935. Ox Emerson has a few matchbooks. I lot of the UT guys played baseball as well so I have that option but... I think it's cheating. |
Have you considered seeking out vintage photos for some of the players that don't have cards?
jeff |
Looks like there are at least 32 different cards of Bobby Layne. Have you started collecting these yet?
http://www.footballcardgallery.com/search/layne/ That would be a fun player run to do. jeff |
Jeff,
I have most of those. I'm a bit confused about the 3 '48L's? I've only ever known of two. I need the 1960 Kahns, the exhibit, bread label, and the bazooka. The regular issue stuff was pretty easy to obtain. His legacy seems to be fading. It's a shame. How many of these guys today could pound a six pack minutes before a game and then decimate their opponents? Know one seems to talk about the curse that he put on Detroit. It's been 50 years and counting... |
Matt great stuff you have. Layne is one I collect also. Only two 48 Leafs that I'm aware of, the link Jeff provided has a 49 Leaf to go with the 2 '48's.
Here's my Layne Bazooka. http://photos.imageevent.com/mhgt/ho...ka%20Layne.jpg |
