Posted By: <b>Brad Green</b><p>I got a card from our esteemed moderator a few days ago. I have been calling it a 1929 World Champions Premium; Leon was calling it a 1929 Philadelphia Premium. Either way, it's uncataloged. The card has several tack holes, some writing, a crease and some uneven toning. No big deal. But, I thought I would try to "repair" the image to remove the tack holes, etc.<br /><br />The actual card and the repaired card are shown below. Which one do you think looks better? Even though the repaired card no longer has tack holes, etc, I think the vintage look and the "class" of the card are gone in the repaired version. I still like the original card, even with the tack holes, etc. are gone.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.bandkgreen.net/lefty_grove/1929_worldchamps_net54.jpg">

Posted By: <b>John S</b><p>The tack holes and "pitcher" written on the bottom do not bother me, but the writing on the hat definitely detracts from the original image. The repaired image is more appealing as it retains the toning and other age-related imperfections without the intentional damage.

Posted By: <b>Brad Green</b><p>The actual card has not been modified at all. I would not do that. All changes were made to the scan of the card via Adobe Photodeluxe. In my original post, I said "I thought I would try to "repair" the image to remove the tack holes, etc." The key is that I repaired the digital image and not the card.

I was going to say that if you had figured out how to remove ink and then get the slabbers to grade it, you'd have a goldmine of a business oppurtunity on your hands. The potential implications if used by someone with bad intentions are scarier still.<br /><br />That third-option card looks great, but the original is still the original, added 'character' and all.

Posted By: <b>HandsAtNeck</b><p>My vote is: do not repair. The original owner did not deface the card, he believed that he improved it. Now those modifications are a part of the card's history. And I do not think that they detract from the card at all (well the hole is not an enhancement, but the position ID and hat art is fine).
