1952 Topps Original Artwork?

Hi All,

Here's another puzzler someone out there could help me with. I and many of you have seen the original paintings that were the basis for the 53 topps cards, but I've always wanted to see some examples of the original artwork for the 52s. The process fascinates me, of hand coloring these images, and I've wondering if they were preserved or offered up for public viewing, or sale?

Thanks!

BR

If I'm not mistaken, '52 Topps were not original paintings like the '53 but Flexichrome like '54-60. It was a B&W photo that an artist added color to. I may be wrong...

Yes, that's exactly what they were (I wasn't sure of the name of the process), but wouldn't there still be the artist original after having applied color to the black and white image?

Yes, there are originals. I just bought this original Flexichrome of Harmon Killebrew & Rocky Colavito (below)that was to be made into a 1960 Topps double feature card, but was never produced. It wasn't cheap, so I can't imagine what an original '52 piece would cost. Good luck!
