"Motor Car" and Basketball Trophy - what era is this from

Picked up in a junk shop for $9.99. A 6.25 inch tall by 8 inch from handle to handle loving cup/bowl trophy with the following engraving:

"MOTOR CAR SUPPLY TROPHY - EDMONTON MEN'S BASKETBALL - League Championship - Annual Competition- Replaced By - 1452 AAF-BU - Athletic and Recreation Organization"

Questions for those that might know:

- When did "motor car" go out of fashion?
- best way to restore this highly tarnished item?

Thanks!

Nice trophy Chris. I am guessing "Motor Car Supply" is the proper name for the company that donated the trophy or sponsored the league. The term is still used today for business names, so that me be hard to key on. The term was however heavily in use for car company names in the early 1900s. I am guessing based on the style of trophy, and when basketball was first invented and then later became organized and more popular, that your trophy would be around 1920s/30s.

Thanks Joe!

I did some digging tonight and found reference to an Airforce Base Squadron 1452 and a Blachford Field in Edmonton. Wartime piece perhaps?

Might be barking up the wrong tree in entirely the wrong forest, but the additional inscription about
"Replaced by 1452 A-A-F--B-U" might be the best clue for putting a date to the piece. If that refers to
the 1452nd Army Air Force Base Unit near Fairbanks Alaska, the engraved "postscript" would suggest
that that part of the trophy, at least, is WWII era, and the Motor Car award, as already surmised,
predates the early 1940s.

Is there a makers mark?
