The toughest 1957 Topps Card in High Grade

Posted By: JimCrandell
I think this is a pop 3, acquired from who else--The King of Vintage Basketball himself--Mike Rakosi. Last one I needed to complete the set.

Posted By: Jim VB
All right Crandell! Now knock it off! I've owned this set (ungraded) for 20+ years. I was always perfectly happy with it. Never thought of any reason to upgrade. But your constant postings of near flawless cards is starting to tick me off. (Obviously, I'm only kidding. I love seeing your cards. It helps raise my standards going forward.)

All of a sudden, mine, which I've been fine with, don't look so good.

Posted By: Robert Dimand
One of the biggest challenges in these is centering. I'm a centering freek and that's why it has taken me 10+ years to finish the set in 7 (1 to go). Gotta love the sets in 8, quite an accomplishment. Doing this set in 8 o/c would be a breeze, and the 8 o/c cards are quite cheap. For me, centered 7's have been a hard enough challenge, without going broke. The Gallatin I posted is VERY tough well centered.

Posted By: Robert Dimand
Outstanding Clifton, toughest of the group.

Chasing this set has been a fun 10 year exercise for me, I'm happy with centered 7's, sometimes impossible to find.

I was recently on a plane and saw someone reading a script about the Globetrotters, Clifton and the transition to NBA. Hope it makes a movie, but the audience may be limited, or maybe at least an HBO deal. Almost twisted my neck trying to read it across the aisle.
