He has this one as well. Ugggg this sucks lol I've had several Cobb's slabbed and I've looked at everything and it's sure in line with others I've had but I also know there is a lot of fraud out there .https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8c52d28917.jpg

Look at the loop at the base of the "B" in Babe. It's going in two directions.

Incredibly suspect IMO.

I saw this one on eBay and couldn't believe the price it sold for. It looks like someone traced over a reprint with a marker.

That Cobb is awful. The paraph is all wrong and there are two noticeable pressure points, at the base of the "T", and in the loop of the "o" in Cobb, which means the pen was either stopped or lifted. Plus the misshapen letters. Bad signs.

Whenever I read "found this at an estate sale" always makes me cringe. But that's just me.

Is that what this is? Yikes.

I would never even consider buying a Ruth or a Cobb on that media.

Cobb doesn't look good to me from a couple I have had before but I'm no expert.

keithsky 06-05-2018 03:37 PM

Yea I have seen guys on ebay selling stuff they say they got at an estate sale and I found it on a past C. C. auction My guess is the guy is to embarasses to admit he bought the crap on CC so he makes up a story he bought it an estate sale. Makes it sound more legit trying to sell it I guess.

Here is a collage of my old one in the one that's for sale. The PSA is the top onehttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...640b67d3df.jpg

The top was written with a fountain pen. Notice the smooth flow of ink.

The bottom one was written with a green ballpoint pen. Such pens were rare and not widely used during Cobb's lifetime. While some early versions of the ballpoint were in use during the 1950's, I'm not aware of any models with green ink.

I did some quick research and it appears the Jotter ballpoint pen did come in green, starting in 1954. So that would be the terminus post quem for the bottom signature.

However, it appears from the barrel that the ink was more of a dark, forest green.

The color of the pen was not the color of the ink!
