Fake Mantle

Obvious fake. Don't want anyone on the board getting burned on this one.

OMG!! There was no attempt in hiding anything. The black border lines are hideous!

Yea. I messaged the seller telling him it was fake. His response, "ok." No effort whatsoever to revise his description. "LOOKS AUTHENTIC TO ME!!!" Well, if you did any research at all, it wouldn't look authentic. Crooks like this make me hate this hobby sometimes. Someone is going to get burned on this as it is already up to $100.

Thanks for posting this....just curious...for,my own knowledge

What are the signs in identifying a fake? And, how did it land on a psa holder?

Thanks

On this one, the loop on the "y" in Mickey ended too far from the bottom of the box. If you look at a real one, there is only a very small gap between the y and the box. For some, but not all, fakes, the gap is almost twice as wide. This was one of those. There are other signs of fakes, but I am not that knowledgeable on those things.

Dave,

This is a site I always refer to when looking at '52 Topps Mantles.

http://home.comcast.net/~52mantle/52toppsmantlereal.htm

It does a great job of highlighting the differences between the two variations, and the common mistakes made when trying to fake the cards.

I hope this helps!

Bill
