54 Jackie Robinson or 62 Roberto Clemente: Which would you choose?
I am working on a possible trade from a respected member on this site. I have a couple of options for a trade and I am having a very tough time choosing between a couple of cards. I can not afford to get both (wish I could) and I am seeking the opinions of the very qualified members of this forum by putting to a poll. Here are my choices. Both cards have print lines. Thanks for your time and effort!

Personally I think the only thing uglier than the 62 Topps set is the 87 Topps set so I would go with the very nice looking 54 Topps.
Good luck on the trade! |
I love the '62 and '87 Topps sets :D
That said, I would pick Jackie too. |
I voted for Jackie too. That's a sharp 4 and the print line isn't that noticeable.
I like the '54 set much more than the '62 and, although they were both very impactful players, I think Jackie is more collectible than Clemente. Plus the print line on the 7 is pretty bad imo. |
even clemente is starring at that print line on his 62 going "ehhh".
the jackie all the way. |
That Robinson is very nice. Clemente is way over priced / valued imo. Easy choice for me, go with Robinson.

My vote was for the Robinson as well. If majority wins it appears you have your answer. Nice card either way though.
|
I would go with the Clemente but only because I already own a 54 Robinson. Not having either I join the chorus saying the Jackie. There are a number of Clemente cards that I think I might pick over the Robinson but the 62 doesn't resonate with me.

I want to thank all who posted and voted. I confirms what I originally thought. I lean towards collecting Clemente in general but Jackie certainly is an icon also. Thanks all!

Clemente is one of my two favorite players of all-time (Yount being the other), but even I'd go with the Jackie Robinson here, simply because of the cards being presented. The '62 Topps set is my least favorite of the era, and that print line is distracting.
Now, if we were talking a '55, '56 or a '58 Topps, my answer would be different. |
Never liked 54 Jackie because of the cut off cap and his left eye looks odd.
