Fighters w/o cards or with few cards?

In my perpetual quest for stuff, I have been looking for career-contemporary cards of some HOF boxers who I just cannot seem to find on cards Anyone have any ideas on these:

Charley Burley
Miguel Canto
Antonio Cervantes
Bobby Chacon
Khaosai Galaxy
Humberto Gonzalez
Cocoa Kid
Ismael Laguna
Ricardo Lopez
Lloyd Marshall
Eusebio Pedroza
Luis Rodriguez
Daniel Zaragosa
Carlos Zarate

Ricardo Lopez was in the Japan World Boxing Set issued in February 1996.

Wish I could find a list, and I don't know if you'd consider them "cards", but "Boxing Beat" magazine might have had a couple of those guys in a back cover card "cut-out" in the late 80's.

I know I've run across them and considered them pretty neat, but never thought to remove them from the magazine.

Exhibitman 01-06-2017 12:29 PM

Cut-out card issues have a long history. Heck, the first two Ali cards are cut from publications (1960 Hemmets and 1962 Rekord). If you have any I'd like to see them.

JWB and Gong have knocked quite a few off my HOF list, not to mention the Pac-Man and B-Hop RCs. They are pretty nice cards.

Here's the 1996 JWB Zarate; might be his RC even though he'd retired by that point:

These are 1981 RCs from Japan's Gong Magazine, stickers actually:

And a 1982 Gong Salvador Sanchez issued a few months before his death:

Oh, cut-outs are fine. Just wasn't sure where some people draw the line. I made a point of questioning the Boxing Beat cards because they don't have a traditional back. Just the back of the magazine ad, even though the fronts appear to be designed to be cut out.

Yes, the Japan World Boxing are really nice cards. I have a bunch of sheets of them laying around here.

Galaxy is also in that set, but several years after he retired.

155 Leo Gamez
156 Pipino Cuevas

Panel #31 August 1998 is

121 Kozo Ishii
122 Satoshi Iida

124 Matthew Saad Muhammad

Panel #26 March 1998 is

101 Yoshiaki Matsukura

112 Rosendo Alvarez

Ok, that seems to account for all of them now.

D. Bergin 01-06-2017 01:10 PM

I had a couple Pacquios before they took off. Probably sold them for under $15 bucks each. Such is life. :(

Also sold a bunch of stuff I never thought anybody would ever want, so it all works out in the end. :D

sthoemke 01-06-2017 06:01 PM

I think Ray Temple does not have a card.

None I can identify.

Exhibitman 01-06-2017 08:36 PM

I'd take Lopez and Galaxy as placeholders.

I would like to see some images of these Boxing Beat magazine cut out cards.....

With this thread in mind I went and picked up the Salvador Sanchez Gong card. Seller in Japan mentioned it was issued in May 1982. Not that it matters much, but wonder if this pre-dates the Panini issue of the same year at all.

Exhibitman 01-25-2017 01:51 PM

I dunno, but given that he was killed in 1982 and the Gong card definitively predates his death, I opted for it instead of the Panini as my example.

Here are some Fight Beat examples:

ETA: as magazine cut out cards go, they are pretty nice.

Also, I found a Luis Rodriguez card:

Can a ticket count as a card, if it is fully intact and has a picture of the boxer?

Ismael Laguna:

Exhibitman 01-26-2017 05:26 AM

No a ticket is a ticket. Nice but not the same.

D. Bergin 01-26-2017 10:53 AM

Hey Adam, have you catalogued the Seidman program cards? They were a limited edition (Appears to be anywhere from 70+ to 200+ per sheet), that I believe were freebies inserted in programs to fans who purchased ringside tickets to specific fights that Seidman printed the programs for.

Cardstock sheets that appear to be designed for trimming on the front, while the backs usually served as bout cards for the fight night the sheet was issued for. Issued in the early to mid 90's. I had almost all of them at one point, but never thought to digitally archive them properly. I want to say there was somewhere between 15-20 different sheets produced.

Another I've not seen before. Seidman was associated with Brown's boxing cards; a Seidman Productions Inc. copyright is on the back of some of the 1990s cards.

D. Bergin 01-26-2017 06:42 PM

Yes, Seidman helped produce some of their larger and more popular sets around the middle of their run. I believe all the series that were like 45 cards and under, Seidman had nothing to do with.

Here's another one of those sheets.

Ran across this, going through a stack of these.

Depending on whether you consider these over-sized cards, or premiums (or both), this one pre-dates the other World Boxing Japan card of "Finito" by almost 2 years, by my estimation.

Khaosai Galaxy. Still not during his actual fighting career, but it predates the smaller card by about 4 years.

c. tail end of 1994 or early 1995. Haven't pinned the dates of these down exactly yet.

HOF'er, Humberto "Chiquita" Gonzalez

Exhibitman 03-08-2017 12:44 PM

Well, I've managed to knock off several from the list:

These from Dave:

Khaosai Galaxy
Humberto Gonzalez
Ismael Laguna
Ricardo Lopez
Luis Rodriguez
